I personally can't see what all the fuss is about.
Its just a big f**king plane! Imagine the damage that f**ker will do if it gets hijacked!
AND
to be honest imagine traveling too and from somewhere on that. Youll be stuck in the bording queue for good knows how long and it will probably take you a day to get off it when you arrive!
Gimme one of those little snoozy jets anyday!

Just cus you aint interetsed steve dont mean other people might not be
Besides, most of us must enjoy engineering in some way or another and there are pleny of people involved in engineering on this site.
This new plane has been the cumative effort of most of europe and required HUGE technical breakthoughs in materials, electronics and such which, eventually, you might find on cars in the future

I'm not sure I'd want to show up at an airport, let alone a busy hub, with 554 other people and all their junk. You're pretty much guaranteed to not be the only ones there and will have to wait a good while for baggage claim.
Not to mention how long it will take just to load/unload that many people
I think that it will only be really useful on trans-oceanic flights and long-haul cargo flights between HUGE cities.
There are exactly ZERO airports in north america at the moment that can accomodate the plane and I don't think that there are more than a handful in Europe.

As sad as it may seem the company I work for insure everything that goes with these things. Apparantly they've got the most up to date technology for passenger entertainment on board & will cut the journey times of most flights, but they will only be used on long haul flights eg London - Singapore, New York - Far east etc etc.
Ok I'll get my coat

they are develpoing 24hr capable aircraft at the moment, with a 2 crew rotation , one crew takes off an flys for a bit, then go to bed, 2nd crew take over for the mid-flight, then the 1st crew take over again for the final few hours direct from uk-australia with no stops or re-fueling they recon is on the cards by 2014
not sure I fancy being on an aircraft for 24 hours mind
the RAF is ordering loads of A380M's, going to replace the vc10 and tristar fleets with them, half for tanker conversion for in-flight re-fueling, and half for strategic transport. Might be playing with them soon then

[aeroplane saddo knowitall hat on]The largest aircraft in the world is the Russian ANTONOV AN-225 MRIYA, 84meters long, 18meters high (not inc tail), 89 meters wide, and can carry 275tons of cargo, it makes this Airbus seem pretty small[/aeroplane saddo knowitall hat off]

Correct me if I'm wrong - but the A380 is now the biggest commercial passenger jet where as the Antonov is an ageing cargo plane?
Boeing aren't going to compete at this level, Airbus have stuck their necks on the chopping board a bit because Boeing are developing a non-stop round the world plane (I think this is what RWD_cossie_wil mentioned above) which will remove the need for stopping at hub airports en-route (e.g. removing the stop at Singapore or Malaysia on London -> Sydney). The aircraft will be nowhere near as big as the A380 but be more time efficient - the point about disembarking from the plane is still to be addressed as London Heathrow is the only airport that has agreed to make the necessary changes to dock the A380 (I think they'll need more than one airport to make the A380 a success - very early days yet though of course and I'm sure others will join shortly but funny none-the-less).
Excuse my geekiness,
Andy

It Wasnt Me!
Aye hardy your right it is the largest "ageing" cargo plane, and A380 is a passenger plane. . BUT theyre gonna use a few A380s as cargo panes also!
Am i right on saying tho their is only one an-225?
Imo their gonna have to get a number of airports to accomodate the A-380, think bout where it would land if one got into dificulty whilst passing about 4 airports that cant accomodate it it's a great idea/plane, they'll be able to shift just as many passengers (fully loaded) with half the flight numbers, thus saving a shit load of money as its app more economical than ure average diesel car (think as said above?) the interior of the plane imo takes the piss. . walk in showers, pc's, etc etc, its a fookin plane!!!!

Branson claims he is going to have Gym, a shop and a bar etc on his A380, i say bollocks, thats a good few rows of seats that he will not be able to have. IMHO not one of them will have a Gym or a shop. Manchester could handle one but it would have to be parked off stand and the pax bussed over to it! lol Rick

its a huge plane and the trent 900s are massive they are planing to use them to power large cruise ships military ships
they are probabily one of the hardest engine ive helped assemble as the shear size of the components are huge u need a crane for basically everypart you fit, but they do sound mint when they are running on the test beds

I have been looking at this thread title for the past 2 days and thought I won't even bother opening it as I cannot comment on a new road in the UK as I'm not there! Thought I would click on it as it was staying near the top of the first page and found this!
I have been following the development of this plane since 2000 and it looks fantastic. Although the current fear with it is, it will be used to recoup money from the masses by cramming as many people in as it has cost so much to develop and then buy. Hopefully not going to happen though. Melbourne airport is being revised to accomodate this currently.
