Mastangs use T5s likes cossies.
Mustangs also use drag autoboxes (with cool stuff like transbrakes )
Mustangs with the above boxes are often turbod and push out well above 1000bhp.

Methinks you go to http://www.turbomustangs.com/forums/

American guy near me whos got some mad ford turbo V8 stuff said the bex he uses cost him around 400quid IIRC and is good for 1000bhp...

Transbrake, well have to ask DannyB how they work, but they hold the revs at whatever revs (usually pretty low, peak torque i think) and load up the engine/transmission so the car is on full boost at a standstill so you can leave the line on full boost and peak torque

And the noise of the turbo on the line is fookin incredible

ah right, so a bit like just holding a manual at 4k and then just letting the clutch out for a good start then?

No, if you hold a manual at 4k you wont be on full load and full boost, you wouldnt even be on full boost if you was bouncing off the limiter.

It makes the engine load as much as if the car was flat out in 5th up a hill, so its working its hardest, so the min you let off the transbrake and suddenly there no load it REALLY rockets off.

There no way of getting the car under the same load with a manual (itd stall) or an auto without a transbrake (its not the same as having 1 foot on brake n 1 on accelerator).

Later on il see if i can find some vids of turbo cars launching off the transbrake...

Youl need good tyres tho

ah right i got ya. so the break just aplies a little bit of friction to what would be the flywheel so that it loads up.

ive joined the mustang site and put up a post but i gues there all in bed at the moment

why not use the cossie autobox and replace the controls with simple? electronics.

I don`t know if it will be easy but i guess it will require the control of valves in a particular order.

What does everyone else think?

yes thats an option but after speaking to brenie about that box it sounds a little more tricky than that

the granny cosworth box uses a soloniod for the shift and torqe lock, now doing the gear shift could be done with buttons on the steering wheel (shift up, shift down) but what do i do about the torqe lock? just leave it so it never works or i would need to get a box of tricks made up to tell it when to engage dunno, going to pick one up this week that makic randy is very kindly donating i'll pull that one apart and have a play with the electrics and see if i can make it work i feel a head ache coming on already

just had a thought actually with regaurds to how to get the torqe lock to work when i want it.......recon if i took a shift light and tapped the feed to the change up light and sent that to the lock solonoid.......you see what i mean?

could just set the shift light at say 3000rpm so the lock would engage with the light

only problem is getting it to disengage when the box changes up which i guess it would need to do?

It is very easy to program a chip to do this, and use buttons on the stering wheel, or the rpm shift light would work!

Give Danny B a pm or ring him at Hauser Racing, they have shipments every month from the US, and his rear is a mustang one so he knows his stuff

thing is i know that the auto shift stick has to have a mechanical link to select 'park' so it can eject the locking pin but what about the other gears?

or will i still need a mechanical link for the lever but when its in drive i can just inform it when to change?

far as i know it just needs rpm and car speed so it knows when to change up or down, or kick down ect..... im going to have an electronic speedo on the dax so i wonder how hard it would be to use the granny ecu and just tap the wires were i need to so i can just shove the ecu under the scuttle and give it the inof it needs just to work the gearbox hmmmmmmmmm

darren.cudd... I was never much for the auto boxes but a few guys here in the states are running V8's and 2.3L turbo Pintos have been using the Ford C4 trans with a manual valve body.

PM me if you want me to get some more details
