Had a 328 cabby since 2002 and it's n reg but on an m3 plate.between me and the missus we've put over 100000 miles on it and only had any trouble to be honest through my neglect.clutch went at 170000,original,been through two water pumps, change that to a metal impellor one immediatley as I didn't and the head cracked but tbh that's very little for a car that's done 195000 with very little maintenance.there's a really good thread on here about 325's/328's and IMHO it's the best overall car I've ever owned,in fact were emigrating to Canada and have decided to take it with us as we can't bear to part with it.plenty of performance and still doing nearly 30mpg overall.handle nice with a comfy ride as well.faults?temp gauge musnt move under any circumstances when it warms up,mine ran just over half all the time,in traffic no matter what,if that's going up and down walk away.rear bushes, lower arms and a dodgy display unit are the other common ones but they really are great cars.never owned an m3 myself but always wanted one, they share a few bits with the 328i but I think they're a lot worse on petrol and much more pricey if they go wrong although obviously much quicker.the 328 is very restricted from the factory, you can put a 325 throttle body on it and a performance exhaust as it comes with restrictors as standard ,apparently the full m3 system fits straight on!!I think a cone filter was mentioned as well giving you 200+ bhp and making it very lively then.if you can get one with a decent fsh you'll be laughing.

Cheers VaughanT I have had some nice cars, wish they were ferraris though lol.
My mates always used to say that my m3s felt slow compared to subarus etc that i had at the same sort of time. Although the m3 would beat other subarus constantly.

The evo was an awesome machine,320 bhp out of the box from a six cylinder motor 13 years ago!!!!E46 in my opinion is an inferior car,e36 feel better made.everyone I know who's had the e46 m3 seem to have had loads of major probs with them, not silly mileages either.

20K+ Super Poster.
i didnt know that about the 323/328! good info
i just assumed the 323 was a "detuned" version of the 325 for people who were pikey or insurance values etc. didnt relaise it was the 320 replacement!

I had an E36 3.2Evo, awsome car! I would go for the Evo, had 6 speed and revised suspension setup for better handling nad 321 BHP standard over the 3.0's 286BHP, that engine is just genious, I was averaging 25.5MPG, stick on a Pipercross induction kit and a Scorpion Exhaust, sounds great. Porshe 911 performance and half the running costs.
