2.0l blacktop
hi guys.
iv got 2.0l zetec blacktop in my focus. i want more power. lol
im only looking for round about 200-220 bhp.
what im wanting to know is,how much power can the standard internals take?
i really want turbo power but yet people say that n/a power is better.
which one is best?
cheers

probably the most asked question on the internet, do some googling on "zetec turbo" and "zetec tuning"
i've had zetecs N/A tuned, supercharged, and turbo'd and the turbo is by far the best.
with N/A tuned motors you have to be driving them at high revs for the fun.
some people have done shit turbo conversions on the standard ecu and using the wrong type of turbo, no intercooler etc - and then say its crap and wonder why the bottom end explodes.
they can take 280-300bhp with good tuning and breathers, best to have ARP rod bolts and dont take the revs above 6500rpm. revs will kill an engine as much as bhp.
its easier to just drop a FRS engine in though.
and look at the supercharger kits for the focus zetec from USA (powerworks and jackson racing)

i've got one running 300bhp, pulsar T28 at 19psi and it has the standard mahle pistons but they have been ceramic coated. standard rods, but its got ARP bolts (and decomp plate).
its been running for about 4 - 5 years and 25-30k miles. the bottom end did have new shells etc during the turbo conversion though.
also running a supercharged silvertop at 230bhp (plus NOS), totally standard internals (apart from ARP rod bolts) which has been running for 5 years and 40k miles plus.
if/when the turbo engine goes pop i'll get forged pistons/rods but i'm a bit loathed to in case something else goes wrong i'll lose all those expensive parts - where i could just stick another blacktop bottom end in and have another few years out of it!
if you try running it with shit or no mapping, shit intercooler, and a generally poor setup it will go bang (even if you have forged pistons/rod)
if yours has high miles or heavy oil/fuel consumption its not worth doing either.
