st220 ever featured in mag.?
hi,
i´m quite a big st220 fan myself but i do realise many dont share my interest in the model, however i know i´m not alone and i know there are people modifiying them, but i just don´t seem to remember ever seeing one featured ina ford mag.
does anyone know of such a car? are they really that bad or is it just a stigma that has unjustly stuck? why don´t ford/st specialist tuners seem to want to develop new products for this model? even the specialist st tuners overlook it. is it down to people just thinking its a fancy rep. mobile or just not wanting to support the flagship model.
i´ve read so many people complain about the power of these cars yet they are still leaving the factory with more bhp that the cossie yb´s did, why does nobody try to improve this engine rather than just slag it off?
it just seems so strange to me, in my opinion its 10x better looking that the st170/mk1 rs focus and as good as the st2/3.
surley there are family guys out there wanting something a bit special but needing a family car, it seems like the best of both worlds to me.
anyway, just looking for features thats all, not looking for an argument about if i´m right or wrong, its all just my opinion and i know i´m in the minority

"its a piece of crap"
Only joking, sorry i couldn't resist
I do like the look of the car, but tbh i really dont know why ford never made it rwd/4x4 i mean it could have been the predecessor to the might that is the cosworth, you would probably see LOADS more around on the roads and race tracks if that was the case

lol, i agree though mate, i heard about a place that does a rear whell conversion and also i heard they do a 4x4 version in the u.s
they such bargins now though that it makes the cost of a conversion look expensive, although loo´king at it the other way, being so cheap leaves money for the conversion!
wonder how much it would cost, i know of a local v6 specialist who can turbo or even
twin turbo them, or atleast claims they can

It would be nice to have a rwd/4x4 mondy, but realistically, for the cost of the car + conversion you could get a REALLY nice x-type 3.0 sport awd, which looks classier and has a more luxurious interior than the mondeo. Insurance would be cheaper than a converted car too...

nice to see people being possitive about the big st, i´ve always loved them and i have big plans for mine. hope to get it in a mag soon, want more people to see what a good car this is/can be.
i tend to get through my cars a bit rapid (17 in last 5 yrs) but if i do keep this long enough and get it tuned to the level i plan then who knows, maybe i´ll get the cards out and try get it converted.
what do you all think woulf be better 4x4 or rwd? don´t see me doing much / any track work, just fast road and still needs to be a daily driver.
found that back issue "bungle" but it wouldnt let me use my card to order it, will try again later, cheers though.

these pics are very welcome, i´m out near russian at the moment so relying on the forum to keep me entertained, the wheels look great, i´m a big fan of keeping a simular wheel to factory but with a twist, after all, ford spend hundreds of thousands on development so they should have a good idea what suits the car to start with.
i´m looking to fit black zito 168´s in an 18 or 19 inch but only as i can´t find a more suitable option.

car is magnum grey by the way, can´t decide if the car needs a wheel with the silver lip to break up the barkness of paint, whel and tyre. or if i go for all back and keep it meaner looking and a little more motor sport than bling.

Why less loss? You have to ask? A prop shaft to the rear lose's more power than FWD
4x4 would lose even more Pretty damn simple fella,
Who car's on how much fuel it use's, Maybe at the price of fuel it become's an issue for people, aswell as car manufature's (emissions) to stop pollution,

Boring more like Maybe if they only did RWD car's and your kids if u have them, Play out and someone who isn't a driver loses control in the rain maybe then you'd see my point!
Most people cannot handle powerfull rwd cars so for the majority FWD is safe for everyone .
+ as said emission's is the main reason the mondeo never followed suit by been RWD,
The mighty cosworth as you say, Got slayed to shit by the nissan skyline ending the rain of there supremacy, There's better car's out there than a sierra

I love the st220 personally and when I worked for ford their were loads of boys who bought them, bit heavy on the juice hence why the derv one became so popular.I wonder if not many get modified as their pretty trick from the factory,18's,funky colours, big motor, leather etc.

well i suppose there are good sides to both, as for the comment about fwd being safer, i must just point out, i recently did a finnish driving test which involves 30hrs classroom, 30hrs driving, skid pan, night training, theory test followed by 30min driving test, then after 2 yrs you must re-take all but the classroom work, and it was made clear that rwd is safer if you assume both are the same power, the front wheels are already taking care of the stearing, so actually to spin out the rear end is a better result than to smash forward with understeer. this is all assuming you go at equal speed into a corner. and i do realise that in certain conditions this may be incorrect, but i guess its ment in the majority of cases rather that a set rule for all. and maybe over a certain bhp /speed things do start to alter. i´m not sure, just relaying what i heard.
i guess its very hard to say though, with each accident having different eliments that will effect it.
anyway, more to the point..... anyone feel better about facing the u.k test after hearing what i had to go through oh and its all 100% compulsary, no ifs or buts, everyone does it and its 1500€ about £1200 set fee.
and the crazy part about it is i often get quoted high insurence premiums because i have an EU license !!

The only downfall of FWD is launch but the new FWD car's are becoming better and better by the day
The focus RS prove's that point
