You hit the nail on the head "Ending the rain of there supremacy" until this time nothing could touch them. The Skyline was a throughly more modern car in every respect couple to this the electronic gizmo rubbish and the result is a better handling car, the skyline is not true RWD anyway.

The Mondeo was introduced with mondern technology of the time such as modern suspension designs and multi valve engines, it was FWD as all rivals were way before such as the Cavalier, and what seems sadly be the norm now. Thankfully Ford kept the Sierra RWD.

As you say each to there own but I prefer a RWD than FWD or 4x4.

That could happen in any car tho! any how if that did happen the driver would well and truly need to be hung drawn and quartered and found wanting for driving like that in a built up area...

So just because a car is powerd by its rear wheels it wont meet the emissions?

You miss my point, i was referring to the Ford marquis, obviously there are better cars out there im not stuck in the 90's

Emissions have nothing to do with what wheels are driven, if that were the case I think BMW would of been out of business long ago, thats the sad thing if you want a RWD this is one of the few options left.

The main reason for FWD is they are cheaper and easier to produce and do have certain benefits such as in snow, but not for driving pleasure.

when i worked for FF afew years ago i featured dan browns st220, was about 340bhp iirc and pretty rapid too. he gave the car to AP racing to develop a brake kit for it too.

was a very tidy car, and if i were in the position to buy a new car, i would deffo consider the mondeo st... diesel lol

so anyone got any opinions on what i should go for wheel wise? zito 168 (black) or the avanti in the link i put up on page 1?
i really think this car needs a lipped alloy but also i don´t want to end up with a chav/bling look. i want to make the car more purposful looking!

does anyone know if i can do a mk1 rsf brembo brake conversion and any rough prices i should expect for it?

also how about chips, bluefin, dreamscience or a custom map at a decent tuner, i´m close to pumaspeed for example.

We rarely feature them as very few are modified to feature standards. I think they're great cars, and there's definitely no anti-Mondeo bias at Fast Ford - I'm on my third, Jamie's got one, and Neil used to own one.

There is a 4x4 one being built, and we'll feature it as soon as it's done!

I cant remember which mag, but remember one being featured about 2 or 3yrs ago. A black hatch, more styling and interior/ice mods than performance, but the one mod that I remember most was the dash, cut about and dials repositioned in the centre, looked factory but obviously wasn't.

This is the ONLY ST MK3 Mondeo I've ever seen that actually pulls off non-standard rims, it just looks fantastic on those

I've never seen another MK3 ST that I've really liked with alternative rims, I think the standard ones suit it really well, think the Focus ST ones and aftermarket ones just tend to look wrong.

I love how this thread has to have a bit of RWD vs FWD going on. The ST220 is a fantastic car. I've driven one and it was brilliant. I bet in the twisties it would spank a 2WD Cossie into the weeds without any issue at all. You may prefer RWD, but FWD is not to be sniffed at these days I'm afraid. For modern cars, it's a far more sensible solution.

Love the ST220. Have only ever driven one once and it was a lovely car but the standard brakes were awful. If they are all like the one i drove the brakes would be the first thing that i uprated, definitely before any engine mods.

Pretty sure they're lower on the ST. I'd go for some Eibach springs if I were you. I've got some on my Mk3, and it lowers it nicely.

sorry i cant help with finding out if the zetec s fit the st but here is a link from where i was just looking for springs, i´ve pre selected mondeo so you just need to search for the 3.0 petrol option once you pick which springs.

i read that dan in fast ford had problems fitting uprated springs to his mondeo as he has self leveling rear dampers, does anyone know what the 220 comes with? will there be any problems or is it a straight swap?

st220 and the st tdci are both cracking cars, and the st tdci has some amazing torque when its chipped, plus will still return 50+ mpg!

IIRC it's only on the estates, so if you've got a hatch, or saloon that's cool. You can tell they're self levellers as the damper boot is convoluted (zig zag) and not straight.

I loved my st220 had it from new 2002 then px for facelifted model couple years later i see lack of mag features as major bonus

Only diffrences are this!

-Shorter steel rods.
-forged pistons on sum!
-drilled crank for spray bottom of pistons with oil.
-Coil per cylinder
-Low power nobles have cam timing retarded 1 tooth.

(prob missed somthing)

Thats the basic diffrences. roush and john nobles built most engines.

I remember from open day at noble many years ago they had both engines side by side stripped possibly because in the early days they got a lot of flak for using a ford engine and v6 one at that!
