Exactly that. RS fanboy with his rose tinted glasses welded on that the Cossie shock horror might actually get beaten in a standard back to back test so feel the need to cheat by "only spending Ł1k for more power"
Why not spend Ł5k on the M3 and shove a turbo on that? Still amounts to the same thing even if it costs less. Why not spend Ł5k on an Evo 3 or 4 instead of on a Saff? But as usual just can't bare a Cossie getting beaten out the box. Same thing with anything Cossies get compared to just spend x amount of money on it for a stage 3 kit. Er hello, isn't standard then is it!

Depends if you think it's a good use of the licence fee
More seriously, TG will smash/ruin it in some way. I can't help but wonder if smashing up a car (just for the hell of it) is actually that entertaining. Clarksons DVDs are full of him blowing up shitter cars than Saff's. But I still don't think it's that great. I guess there's a percentage of the viewers that think it's hilarious though. Probably the same group that will bash into your parked car and drive off or run a key down the side of it.
"but it's funny innnit"

This thread proves, quite clearly, how many people just shouldn't be on this forum.
It will most likely end up in far worse condition than it started, and if it was a good car, then that's a shame. That's true of the Merc and BM too as well, not just the Ford. I think any car like that, which has a big following of enthusiasts, then it seems a bit of a waste to wreck a good example just in the name of TV. But, if they're shit heaps, it's not the end of the world.
I'm looking forward to seeing it either way, nice to see some older cars getting some coverage, and something other than the latest super car that most of us can't afford.
But what I take from this thread the most, is that there is a lot of people who are perhaps a little misguided. Saying it's only a shit old Sierra, or that it doesn't matter how much you spend on it, or that BMWs are better, blah blah blah. In case you hadn't noticed, this forum is called PASSION FORD; I think it's pretty likely that people might be passionate about a popular Ford that might get wrecked for no reason.
Just a thought

Bit more info and pics on page 49 of the new Top Gear mag.
Looks like it was a Ł5k limit to get a sports saloon. Also looks as if the Merc is only a 2.3 ( 185bhp version ) and the M3 is the Evo 3.2 one.
Pic of them in Germany on the autobahn.
Who knows what wacky japes they'll be up to with them...............

Think he meant 'either'. And that saff is around 500bhp isn't it so he probably hasn't met anything close to it

Because some people want a real car instead of a Evo without 4 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive without a load of electronic rubbish.

Not really the Cosworth is faster than both 190E and E30 M3 which are the rival's to the Sierra, the E36 pictured arrived later with two bigger 6 cylinder engines and more power at least that's whats annoying me anyway, so straight away both of these are at a disadvantage as they have the wrong car, so really they need a tuned Sierra otherwise the BMW will obviously win.

The Cossie is also turbocharged, as opposed to the BMW's NA engine, so it could be argued that the Cossie has a big advantage, especially if they're allowed to tweak them.

I'm intrigued as to what they'll do with the Merc though. My humble understanding is that to get more power out of an NA engine you need to spend alot of cash or have an extremely well designed one in the first place, while turbo'd engines are almost a case of more boost + more fuel = more power, which is relatively simple to accomplish.

The Sierra looks standard to me, I really do not care what happens I was just saying that it should be E30 not an E36, although it would annoying if it were trashed as thats another one of these rare cars that will be gone.
True about it being a Cortina/Transit engine but it's the the same engine/running gear from a 3DR so what makes that so special?

Or even better make a car programme worth watching They used to make one a few years back. it was on BBC2 on Sundays. Recently they've just had some random version of "Last of the summer wine" filled with people falling over. Only difference I can see is that it's filmed in Guildford
...countdown till the TG fan boys scream the place down

lol cant believe people geting their nikers in a twist over a saph, loads of saphs get broken for parts every day and the shells scrapped.......so seriously who gives a f**k if it gets wrecked, on the up side it'd make saphs more rarer making people with saphs worth more in the future

Some of us do actually like them and therefore get fucked off when another one gets broken up for parts or wrecked. So in answer to your question of "who gives a fuck if it's wrecked?": clearly, not you. But don't tarnish the rest of us with your brush. Now nob off with your ignorant comments.
And you'll be pleased to know that seens as they're almost all modified, they're actually becoming worthless because a modified car is worth less than a completely mint standard one - why else do you think they end up getting broken while standard ones sell in one piece?
