Correct, when the traction light stays on after the car is started it usually means that one of the abs sensors is damaged. I had the same problem when the sensor cable wore through.
Front sensors are cheap, £15 from eurocar parts, rear sensors are not so cheap

A dodgy MAF brought this light up on my Golf.
Eurocars replecement Bosch item and Vagcom sorted it out...

Traction light. I take it you cannot turn the traction off then?
Could be the tracking is out thus' sending the steering angle sensor into a spazz. This is cured by getting the tracking done and driving round for a bit until the steering angle sensor re learns.
Hope you sort it.
