Apparently shit. I went to a country fair last bank holiday and in the main arena a guy had a Suffolk Punch cart horse and he told this tale where some guy came to his farm pulling a horse box with a Freelander. For some reason Mr Freelander decides to deviate slightly from the farm track and gets stuck on the rough ground so Mr Suffolk Punch owner pulls the Freelander & horse box (still hitched together) back on to the track using his fookin huge horse which proves when it comes to a Freelander there's no substitute for "real" horse power.

Realistically the people on this forum arent representative of "normal" car rental customers I suspect, I always rape them around too, but Ive been in rental cars with plenty of colleagues who have driven with respect etc.

So if its something like a galaxy which is pretty dull by definition I should think you will get mainly reasonable customers, although obviously there is always a risk.

Certainly wouldnt want to do it with any car I cared about though!

Not for me, not everybody hammers the crap out of hire cars but you just don't know what sort of cunt will be using your car. I've seen the state our company pool cars get into with how people treat them.

well, he returned the car yesterday in the same condition that it left in, bar a big birdshit down the side but i'm not sure i can put the blame on him for that one. overall, it was a pleasant experience, i never once worried about my car, and it's paid for 3 new tyres that it needed.

i've got a nother booking for the end of july that will pay for the insurance, mot and service costs for the year. hopefully i'll get another booking sometime to cover the cost of road tax, and then the car will cost me nothing to run this year. can't be bad.

Was wondering how you got on, sounds like a good way to run a car if you arent too fussy about it

i suspect that i will remain a fan until something goes wrong, but that may never happen so i may as well make a few quid to pay for the running costs. i certainly wouldn't want to do it with a car i cared about, but an 8 year old galaxy holds very little interest to me except for being extremely useful occassionally.

i worked for a hire company for a year and in general most customers were fine especially long term contracts. there was the odd few that ruined the cars but serious abuse is easily spotted and customer ends up paying.
worst senario was people hiring 7.5 tonne lorrys that had no clue driving something that big they were always the ones that wrecked them.
