Clio.

GTi6 is without doubt the worst car I've ever driven. And I've driven some shitters in my time!

Clio all day - I've had 3

GTI6 requires work to the sump to stop it running out of oil on hard cornering ( I believe )

Also for the money you will get a newer and lesser mileage car than if you got a GTi6.

And they dont turn one way properly due to the 6 speed box... lol

I loved my 306gti and would no way say it was shit! Maybe lot of you had shitters?

Great car for the money, and imo much better car than the 172. Ask Spiky hes had both.

They dont make a fast enough, reliable enough one, that doesn't rust and handles well.

Unft the French have cornered this market.

well seeing as its a track car, its going to be stripped out and ther is loads of engine transplant and tuning possibilties for something like a zetec s could get a frp lump or cams and tbs for the 1.6?? just a food for thought...

I've often thought a stripped out 1.7 Puma might make a decent/budget track car actually... 120-odd bhp, light, handle well, bits/upgrade cheap and dont cost much to run either.

Cheers,
Grant

Hope I haven't jinxed you then!!we seem to have them in all the time with probs, admittedly they don't rust and are fun too drive so I suppose in a track environment they'd b ok.what about an rs2k?pretty bombproof motor and I'm sure the handling could match the froggies with some fettling?I really hate French cars!!!

Buy a clio 172 and it will destroy any Fiesta or Escort out of the box thats the point.

Who said it has to be stripped out?? I never stripped mine out....

Id say 306 gti 6, but then i am biased.

Heres a vid of one on track, not massive spec, just cage, suspension, exhaust/de cat and filter

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTMVSPUatC0

Not my gti, but the guy can peddle.

Marco made his handle properly but then he's an expert with all things suspension.

He easily proves the point with track cars that you need a reilable car that stops well and goes round corners properly. Big power, cages and other gay and expensive add ons are not necessary.

They do, right on all counts. Mine had lots of weight i could have pulled out, but it was still a daily driver.

Fun little car. Not "fast" but a good laugh.

Peugeot's seem to be the pricey for you get compared to other Frenchies and don't they only go upto 2000 plate? What about a Xsara VTS? Ok so its a coupe not a hatch but for about 800-1500 you get a newer car and its still the 2.0 167bhp lump. Handling probably isn't quite as good as the 306 though. Also think the 306 is 6 gears whereas VTS is 5.

Suprisingly you're wrong... the Zsara is the same car - just a coupe... same track and suspension etc.. handling is nigh on the same.

Its a good option
