I`ll tell you what fucks me of about England, Lampard doesnt play for England the way he plays for Chelsea, and Gerrard doesnt play for England like he does for Liverpool, driving forward from midfield etc...maybe cause he doesnt want to or Capello doesnt let him either way its gonna ruin Englands chance next week if it doesnt change, if those 2 key players are playing to there club potential it will turn us into real contenders as apose to a good squad of players.

I think the friendlies proved that Rob Green and Theo Walcott should be staying at home, Ledley King and Jamie Carragher were more in controll with Joe Hart in goal against Mexico then Terry and Ferdinand but Capello seem's to favour those 2, Midfield is the problem, Rooney plays well as a lone strike with someone playing just off him, so maybe a 4 3 2 1 or a 4 5 1 formation would suit him, either way, Quaters / Semi's is a realistic placement for us at this time IMO.

England ALWAYS start a world cup really poorly. Especially these warm up games. Don't mean shite, especially as some of these players aren't going to South Africa.

Like I've said, you'll do well. Hopefully not tooo well.....

Rooney is doing great, he's the main man upfront, 0 goals in 7 games against poor teams. Good luck with that...

Either he is not up to the task or the 10 or so different midfielders and various strike partners aren't good enough to supply him with chances.

"Rooney has been in fine form all season, scoring 26 goals in 30 games in the Premier League"

id say its more of a team thing

I deal in facts boys...

He's not getting the goals. I don't think the service to him is particularly good, but he's also overrated as fuck.

The Japanese had him resorting to long range efforts, he never looked like scoring.

Mate you just need to stop.

OVERRATED.

I suppose gazza was overrated, pele was overrated etc etc.

How many managers/fellow professionals/journalists/football people have got to tell you how good he is before you believe it.

I'll bump this after England get knocked out in the last 16 or the 1/4's so we can do a goal count.

Yes agree, Rooney is crap, 60 caps, 25 goals and DOMINATED Euro 2004 leading to his Ł30m move to the biggest club in the world at 18. All that by the age of 24. Chances are he will be one of only a handful of players to break the 100 cap mark, maybe even top the goals record and will no doubt be regarded up there or above the likes of other 2nd striker legends like Bergkamp, Zola, Del Piero etc, when he hangs up his boots. In some ways he's ahead of them already!!

He's 'over rated' by the likes of Henry, Ronaldo, Zidane, Pele, Maradonna, UEFA and FIFA not just the FA and English. He was rated 8th best player in Europe at the European player of the year awards so depending who does what at the world cup would be 2nd currently only to Messi.

Wind ups aside, how can it be possible to be first on the team sheet for United and England but be 'over rated'?

England were shocking at Germany 2006 but still were penalty kicks away from the last 4 in the world, something you'll N E V E R see.

You got knocked out in qualification, even Audley Harrison would be proud of that.

Seeing loads of of him cropping up in peoples quotes, he's not a bad lad, knows his footie, might have to remove the old ABU from being all on his own in my solitary list. Just as long as he doesn't start quoting Windows made games performance on Linux though.

The top players prove it at the World Cup. Just look at Pele, Zidane, Ronaldo (Brazilian), etc.

Rooney's been to a world cup. How did he get on in terms of goal scoring, Skeg?

Like I say, I deal in WORLD CUP facts

World Cup facts huh? how well did Messi and Argentina do in 06, yet would you still claim he has not been the best player in world football this year, going off "world cup facts" he`s terrible in your eyes ...no?

He's gash for his national team. Nearly got dropped for the last few qualifiers. If he never does well at the World Cup, I don't think you'll ever be able to compare him to the top players (Maradona, Romario, Ronaldo, Zidane, Pele, John Charles )

He's currently the best player in the world but the jury's still out if he'll become an all time great.

Rooney is in the same position. Can't even be compared to Lineker yet in terms of England forwards, needs to prove it at the World Cup. (I still haven't found out the answer to his goal haul from the last World Cup?)

seriously, get off Rooneys cock. Why can't they be compared?

Is it because Lineker showed he's one of the best goal poachers, winning the golden boot and Rooney didn't do anything at the last world cup (or did he, still haven't been told how many goals Englands best player scored, anyone know?)

that was the world cup when he hadnt properly recovered from the broken bone in his foot, nowere near 100% fit, granted he might not be at the min but come the start of the world cup all being well he should be in far better shape compared to 2006
they cant be compared because linekers done and rooney is 24 years old and got possibly 3 world cups ahead of him yet

In 2006 world cup rooney scored 0 goals, but he fucked his ankle and was rushed back fit to play for england, at the end of the day rooney is still one of the best strikers in the prem and is up there with the best in the world, it just seems that when the england team get togeather they dont gel stright away. But rooney is still the best striker for england at the mo

I was watching tonight, keen to see how Rooney would show on the world stage, after all, he's not over-rated, he's really that good. I couldn't see him, he went missing!!!!

All the pundits say one of the top 5 players at the world cup, do me a favour.

In England's hour of need, he did nothing. Not fit to lace up Messi's boots.

Someone let me know when he's going to put a performance in against a good international side worthy of such praise.

Messi was fantastic, easily put in the best display of any player so far.

Rooney wasn't even Englands best today.
