its a 1979 caterpillar d8k, it had a final drive failure but its done 9000 hours so its had rebuilt torque, transmission, cross shaft (first time ive done bearing preload and backlash on crownwheel and pinion), steering clutches and brakebands serviced and a complete final drive rebuild of all gears and bearings. transmission and torque are rebuilt by a specialist i just remove and refit and check all piping and external valves and replace as necasary. ive virtually done all the rest on my own with the odd hand from my dad so i dont brake my back lol
everything is soooo heavy on it, to put it in perspective the cross shaft with crown wheel on bit like in a diff weighs 90 kgs and has to be lifted out by hand and only i can fit in there to get it out, its not mega weight but its awkward and reaching down and twisting it about to get it out.
