i dont think that people with cars without the rs badges are jealous its often that they are startin out on the ford chain or that they just like a simpler car
i used to come on the forum quite a lot and enjoyed reading what others were up to, and laugh at the little slanging matches that used to occur but nowadays it just seems everybody has a chip on there shoulder about something

Dunno but I've just read a thread from 2007 about suspension and it was a cracking thread involving Tim Finch, Rainbird, Martin Hadland, Tony (NUTS RuS) etc. and I thought then we never see good threads like this anymore.
Seems to have moved away from anything technical and more towards "Whys my cossie blowing black smoke" etc etc and of course the usual shit stupid posts

No not at all mate, as far as i can tell you pretty much see things the same as me and say it how it is. It's more aimed at posts like the one telling Rick Astley to not to read certain things if he doesn't like them - even though that wasn't even what Rick was getting at.
Basically just aimed at people that try to read between the lines and come up with things that aren't there

This site was a trailblazer of really good technical info, 7 years ago when I first used this site there was no other resource I was aware of so good for technical exchange about engines and turbos etc, nowadays its just one of very many sites like that.
It will never be the only one like that I know of again, so will never have that magic for me again that it used to in the early days, thats not the fault of the site though, its just a case of the internet is now a lot bigger than it was then so there are more choices.

To be fair though, the reason people arent bothered with these 'base model beauties' is because theyre boring imo, slow, poor handling, poor spec'd cars havent got a great deal going for them tbh.

To some people, an XR/ST/Ghia/GTI/LX/Encore or whatever might be the best they can do, it might be their total pride and joy, just like a Cossie is to some on here. We have to make do within our means and all that.
Lack of acknowledgement to those with 'lesser' cars contributes to the site fading, as these people won't feel inclined to keep posting in future, and they may be the future owners of the Cosworth/RS/old skool or whatever.
Perhaps I'm just odd, but I don't care what engine or badge a car has, if the person has taken their time, put some thought into it and turned an average car into something a bit better, than I think it can be appreciated.
You might laugh at someone saying about fittin an air filter to their 1.1, but we all have to start somewhere and learn the ropes. Taking the piss out of them immediately just makes people think we're all a bunch of cunts and helps speed our decline.
Just my tuppence anyway...

Kind of agree in a way, 15-20 years ago a cosworth was something something bloody good though, just they are a bit old hat now. most of the arguments on this place are started by FWD haters!

Know what you mean about the bonnet. Noone will understand until they live with it. I tell you its a grower but from pics you'll never understand. It was bought as a daily car not to spend money on so i refuse to buy a bonnet and get it painted right

Well this has been an interesting read and some valid and interesting points there. An interesting one was the one saying an xr3i is shit, so why talk about it. The other one being about someone asking about the best induction kit or exhaust for their 1.1 and the poster saying what's the point, or however he said it.
And I agree, an xr3i is shit, I've had about 10 of them, the last one being about 13 years ago, when I thought to myself "this is shit, I want something better", so I went down the rs turbo and cossie route, but in all fairness, they're shit too, an rs turbo is just a xr3i with a turbo, different seats and a bodykit, ans they made even less of an effort with the s2 than the s1.
As for cosworths, since when has a sierra been any good, they are shit cars with a turbo, bolted onto a twin cam head, sat on a block design that is 40 years old or so.
But what is the first thing the owners do if they buy a s1/2 or cossie and want to mod them, they want a filter and stainless exhaust, so why slag off a skint 17 year old kid trying to do the same thing to his 1.1? It's all part of cutting your teeth on cars and they have to start somewhere.
So they do come to places like this, with their dreams and hopes and all the excitement they feel as they are just starting out on that road, the road we all started out on and they get attacked or ignored. Would you prefer them to ditch their old ford and get a saxo instead....
When I first came to this site, it was because it was a great site and I was sick of the egos on the rsoc forum, with the whole, it's not an rs, why bother mentality. How exactly can you be a badge snob, when all you own is that same shit car as they do, with the only difference being that it was modded at the factory and not in someone's garage. It's still a shit escort or Sierra, it just has more potential.
And that then brings us to the other group of people that used to be into fast fords, but who have now moved on to other things because they realised a long time ago that fords are rubbish, so they have evo's, and wrx's and bm's and rs4's and so on and so on.
I've been recently looking to get back into the ford scene again, as I now have some disposable income again, but what a joke. I wanted a series 1, but to get a nice one I need to spend 8k plus, and why would I spend that, when I can buy a very nice M5 for that money. (Let alone the price of spares for a series 1, with towing eye covers and exhausts being advertised for a grand a piece!!!)
So then I thought, I will get a mk1 xr2 (had about 6 of these when I was between 17 and 20) but people want 3.5/4k for a nice one, and again, I can have an M3 for that money, so why would I buy a 27 year old fiesta with 84bhp as a weekend toy, when I could have any number of very nice cars for that money.
So that leaves the final group of people, those of you that love your fords, you cant put your finger on why you love them, you just do, you lavish your time and money on these cars and they are beautiful, and if I had a hat, I would take it off to you, for all the effort you guys and girls put into your cars, and you do all of this, go through the pain and heartache these cars bring you, all because of your passion for these fords, as it is the one thing you all have in common.
So you should embrace all the people who share your passion, because they have that same feeling about their 1.1 as you have about your pristine series 1 or 550bhp cosworth and these people will be in short supply if you don't realise you are all on the same side and welcome them in.

I love all fords from a ford popular to the latest mondeo.I come on here cause i have a passion for fords.I think alot of people have other things in there life to do than sit in front of a computer screen.
