Its confused me as I was watching "a 4x4 is born" the other day, and he did a whole section on suspension and how springs have progressive rates and blah blah techno babble. Its just got me thinking on my RST which way the springs should be. I've got a feeling its tighest coils at the top. Not 100% though.

I have no idea. I dont know anything when it comes to springs. All i know is the rear's on Mine have tight coils at one end. then the coils become more spaced throughout the length of the spring. They are spax springs.

Im probaby wrong and hope someone can clear it up, but on progressive springs Iv always put the tightest coils facing the top. Unless theres writing on them, in which case I face the writing up the right way

id say tightest at top, bottom compresses up so wide soft at bottom and as compresses and wide coils compress it moves up spring to tight coils

i dont imagine it matters that much as the softest part will compress first. :S
