Default Does anyone actually know what is allowed as hand baggage on planes...

Going down south for the weekend with a few mates today and I'm wondering what the rules for carrying on aftershave, deodarant, razor/shaving foam etc are??

...I don't want to get to security and find that I've got to throw out various bits and bobs that I've bought for the trip so need to know if everything needs to be brand new, or under a certain size, or if there are certain things which arent allowed etc.

Cheers,
Grant

Any normal size aftershave bottle isnt allowed etc, neither is toothpaste, deoderant etc....

Either buy it once your through security in boots or depending what hotel you are in use the toiletries supplied!

liquids
1. The liquid is in a container with a maximum volume of 100 ml
2. That all liquid containers meeting the maximum volume of 100ml can be fitted comfortably into a transparent, re-sealable 1 litre plastic bag.

The plastic bag should be presented separately at security.

Cool, thanks guys... think that I'll pay a wee visit to Boots or the like once we land. Out of interest, do you know if the <100ml container has to be brand new/sealed, or can it be partially used/filled??

Cheers,
Grant

lol exactly Fil. We are just carrying on... don't fancy forking out 50% of the price we paid for the flights to stick a weekend bag into the hold Christian.

*edit, thanks Fil.. I'll have to fire out and get hold of a smaller contact lense bottle etc.

Cheers,
Grant

A normal safety-razor/disposable is fine in hand luggage but a cut-throat obviously isn't.

Fluids and gels can be partially used but the CONTAINER mustn't be more than 100ml (to stop someone mixing 50ml of this and 60ml of that into a single jar once they are on the plane).

The plastic bag they are in has to be one of those ziploc types and has to be presented separately and they will probably do a sniff test. I asked if they would stop me flying if they didn't like my aftershave, but they actually use a machine!

youre not meant to have any razors at all, including disposeables

no liquids or containers over 100ml, so you can have a used 100ml tube with 40 in, but not a 150ml tube with 40 in...... Ironically the plastic bag would do for mixing stuff anyway but nevermind

I fly regularly with my razor in the bag and it has never been a problem - in fact, once or twice I've even been told it doesn't have to be in the bag with the toiletries.
