if its the 1.6 zetec se, then 150 bhp is easy for less than £1500, ( not bad a 50% increase in power on a n/asp engine!! ), if its the 1.6 zetec-e which i think it is, its shit and virtually untuneable. Transplant the 2.0 zetec-e and turbo it

No its not im afraid, you can get a set of cams, full exhaust and pre-mapped chip for less than 1500, but as has been proven time and time again that realistically only gets you 130-140bhp at the most. Add a set of throttle bodies and aftermarket ecu to that then yes you be around the 150bhp mark but not for less than 1500.

For those who've tried and failed at around the 140 mark......i'd be asking the tuner/mapper about the cam timing on the exhaust cam.

Yes Shawspeed have a great reputation and their SS4's are very popular, but i've yet to see a graph to prove that 150bhp has been achieved with just cams, exhaust and a map. I know a live map is more benificial over a pre-mapped chip but even then fall short of the mark, have you got some graphs to show me?

Didnt mention an inlet? Standard Zetec-s plastic one is good enough for 150.

Sorry, I assumed you meant inlet manifold and you'd already mentioned exhaust prior to that. I had a full piper decat on my old mk5 and that free'd it up alot, I still maintain that without the additions of tb's or the like you won't see a genuine 150bhp, but I like to be proven wrong

I have seen it on the internet (so it must be true) that the cams off the 1.8 are a straight swap with 10-15 bhp increase can any 1 verify? Though, to go faster you should stop granny shifting and start double clutching like you should.

The engine in an escort will be a zetec-e therefore nowt like the zetec-se which has the dynoplot above. If you want power, bin the 1600 and fit the 2000. The zetec-e 1600 has rally small valves and cant produce the power. If you did waste your time tuning it you may end up with 140bhp. Why bother when you can swap to a 2000 which has 130bhp as standard, then can be tuned?
