i have an escort sapphire and it has the 1.6 zetec, how do i go about fully chuneing it??
its the engine that was built as a race engine by yamaha so im guessing it will be easy.

Sam, escort sapphire's do exist, it was a typical special edition by ford, basically a LX mate.

Anyway to fully ccchhhuuuunnnnnneeeee it nothing is going to be cheap im afraid.

For about Ł500 u could change it to a 2.0 zetec by getting a engine with ecu out of a mondeo out the breakers, good cheapest ŁŁŁ to power option.

If your sticking with your 1.6 then i guess a good start would be a induction kit and a cat back stainless exhaust system, really de-restricts it/ frees it up.

Sometimes just a good service can do wonders for a car. Regular oil change, new plugs and ignition leads, new air filter.

Anyway hope my reply was helpful, oh yeah try escort evolution.co.uk forum as thats especially for mk5 and mk6 escorts and they have a good for sale section, may find a exhaust going cheap on there.

you want to drill a hole in the middle of your pistons so that more air and fuel can get into them,

and you need to find a transit sierra's induction sytem and exhaust as these add about 25 bhp easily, and the flux capaciter out of them, this will see you with another 10 bhp

yeah they do exist, there just dead rare, basically there a tranny van converted to a pick up with the spolier on the back, bonnet vents and headlights from the sierra too

ow and youll need a yamaha r1 ecu chip to make it run sweet with those mods on

IF this is for real then I'm afraid that engine is totally untunable and your only options are to;

1. Swap the engine with an 1800cc or 2000cc unit
2. Sell the car and buy something quicker

If this thread isnt a windup then il say the 1.6 is a pathetic weedy little lump, swap it for a 2litre, my local scrappy sells engines with loom and ecu for around the Ł100-150 mark. Prob your cheapest bet.
