looks like a nice car.

Just look out for the same things you would look for whenever you buy a car.

Rust risk areas:
- Tailgate handle
- Mirror base plates

Mechanical risks:
- Rear wheel bearings wear quickly
- ARB drop links alllways go
- IB5 (1.6 and 1.8) cars, clutch slave cylinder can leak
- Aux belt tensioner can squeak on 1.6s, revised tensioner available. Not really a problem.

Electrical:
- VSS - symptoms include erratic speedo and engine racing/stalling at traffic lights
- TPS can be dodgy - surging/eratic throttle response
- Missfires due to coilpack or leads

Weren't there some changes made to later models that were also corrected on early ones ?

Double stiching on the seat base being one of them, maybe different engine map ??

Not sure what others there are but just some thing else to look out for. Maybe someone more in the know will post a list and how to spot if they are done or not.

HTH

EDIT : For some reason I read that as Focus RS, hence my comments..

sorry about that...

Overall,great car.
Iv had a mk1 1.8 for over two years and i do over 200 miles a week in it and so far (touch wood) its not let me down at all.
I had to change the electronic speed sensor as it failed but apart from that its been good.
