Default Max bhp and torque for T5 gearbox ?

What kind of bhp and torque can a T5 reliably take ?

The new world class heavy duty versions are advertised at 330lbs ft which does not seem that much

How well do they last with 400 bhp /400 lbs ft ?

Thanks for any input

Mark

Mark, i think 400lb/ft is ok with them, once you start heading 450+ then i guess it's a lottery..

Again depends how you treat them i guess...

330 surely WANT harm it at all, that's the crappy 4x4 ones....

BHP doesn't do it Andy, it's the torque, i know some with over 400lb/ft that are going strong, as i said, it's a lottery really mate..

I'm considering buying a brand new one and can only afford to do it the once.

Realistically my engine will be around 350bhp 350lbs ft, I just do not want to splash the cash and have it go pop at a RWYB.

Is the Jaguar Getrag any stronger ?

They cost a fair bit more cash, if the T5 is strong enough I would rather use it.

they last because the rear wheels start to spin up with decent power lol,if they gripped they would last 5 mins.

personally i wouldnt bother buying a new t5; just get one in this country and have it rebuild by bara or gearbox man etc.

Second hand prices seem quite high if it needs a rebuild to bring it up to scratch and I would like the high 5th gear ratio 0.63:1 that comes with the new box to try and keep mpg to a sensible level.

theirs a place on ebay been selling big tooth t5s for 800quid.. says its the same kit as quaife. he said they are good for about 400 bhp and the same torque.. im going to get mine rebuilt by bara and see how well it lasts.. i hoped someone had tried one of the big tooth kits on ebay as they are not a lot more expensive than a rebuild . not sure if i want all the noise though..
