Default Handbrake spot calipers or hydraulic conversion?

I've been looking into both of these options lately to sort my handbrake situation out on the ERST but both options seem flawd.

Hydraulic Conversion: Could get round the MOT but I hear they let off when they cool down so the car would roll away.

Spot calipers: I hear they don't apply much pressure and are next to useless. What does everyone else use on thier cars?

iirc no hydraulic handbrake will pass a proper mot fella,

spot calipers are exacvtly what they say , there simply there to hold the car in a parked position , and cable operated , and used in conjunction with say uprated hydraulic rear calipers to do the actual braking ,

i was led to belive a handbrake cable is mandatory for a full mot ,

I'm thinking about the same thing myself.

There's a company that advertises in Classic Ford that sells something that allows a cable to be used with a hydraulic handbrake, but I have no idea at all how it works.

Hmmm, because I want to use a mechanical handbrake if I can, just so it's legit, but at about £200 for calipers, cables and mounts don't want them to be crap. I also don't want to pay firther for a hydraulic handbrake if I have to have the mechanical system AS WELL AS.

I heard the Wilwood and Hi Spec ones were crap. Anyone tried the CompBrake ones?

Default Handbrake

I use the willwood 4 pots on the back with the built in cable bit, to be honest the cable bit is near useless, so I just connected up the cables to the handbrake, my master cylinder is also actuated by the handbrake, I backed the cables off so when you lift the handbrake the cables move etc but the hydraulics do the work. Passes MOT everytime and they always say how good the handbrake is. Just dont try to adjust the cable tight as you will not beable to lift the cylinder. Job done.

havent heard bad things about these. or there is the pikey method of a hand brake cable drilled through the top of the rear pads and tied off so it pulls the outer pad in, but i cant see that working too much...

Golf callipers?

alternatively just leave the car in gear or put a stick/bar throught the front or rear wheel to lock it off with the suspension legs like some of the rally boys do. just remember to take the bar out!

also its worth remembering that rear callipers dont do a great deal so massive ones arent needed unless you are doing a gravel or mud rally stage...

Any photos of your setup?

Are these the Wilwood calipers you have?
