Default Should the fuel pump prime when the ignition is switch on?

This is for poeple running a 2.8 MFI like a xr4i etc

I have a old tvr with the above engine in and its noe been starting that well with out giving it some right foot, i noticed the fuel pump only runs while cranking and doesn't purge when you turn the igniton on,

is this right or not is the question?

cheers steve.

same system as the old 3i's. It should prime until it gets to a desired fuel pressure mate. Had loads of trouble with one of my old 3i's. Turned out to be a relax under the dash. Mine was pink

I have been told there is a relay that just controls the fuel pump priming so now ive just gt to find which one it is

has anyone got a xr4i that know the part number or even just the colour.

Series1guy was your relay in the fuse box or was it a loose one?

Hi Mate,

Just a note to say that the pink relays are the same for 3i, capri, 4i and RS Turbo's.
Pink as standard colour but some aftermarket ones may be black. Some relays prime after ignition on but some don't I have noticed. If your fuel accumulator is working then system pressure should have been maintained anyway. Ifd not it only takes a second to build up pressure again.

My brothers 2.8 capri has a pink relay under the bonnet at the top left of the engine bay.
Its no biggy if it doesn't prime.
However, if you want a pink relay make sure it has a yellow blob of paint on the top of it. These are the pinks that prime.

Is it not the cold start valve/sensor that tells the pump to start? I didn't think they had a fuel pressure sensor to allow it to run and shut off when the fuel line's at pressure?

That's melted nicely

Take it along to your local Ford dealer and say "can I have one of these please", they'll have the right one.
