Default Mk2 Focus RS at the Pod.

As much as i think they look the dogs danglies i can't say that i was that impressed with the times that they were putting in on Sunday. After all the hype about them to be honest i was expecting better.

Any other opinions?

i seen a mk2 escort get a quicker time than the focus. I think alot of it is down to how they are driven on the strip.

That'll be a standard Mk2 Escort then?

I know a lot of it is down to engine spec.

No wrong wheel drive car is goin to be quick of the line, mk2 rs 0-60 times are poo when compared to rwd and 4wd cars with similar power

I drove one a couple of weeks back and wasnt impressed at all. Neither is me mate that bought it new, so much so its up for sale. Didnt seem quick at all. Been used to RWD cars for a couple of years now and getting back into a FWD the torque steer is shite, it seems to get to the rev limiter very quickly but not really showing any decent speed. Very upset as I think they look the absolute nuts! Definitely a million other things that I would spend £26k+ or whatever they are on.

£30k odd on a brand new one mate, but i think that at the pod, the biggest stumbling block was that ever time i saw one going up the strip, there was a much faster car in the other lane

not that the other cars were faster in general, the were always goig up against some proper machinery that was going to put in some impresive times

and yes, i was fairly dissapointed at them as well, if you can't get away from the lights then it doesn't matter how much in gear surge you have, mr shopping trolley is going to stop you from going any faster down the high street

I've driven my mates and was impressed at the flexibility of the engine and mid range punch... they have a boost limiter in 1st (and 2nd I think) which tries to limit the power coming off the line, so they're never going to be electric from a standing start.

Cheers,
Grant

imo they were a complete let down.dont know how ford got their performance figures. tbh i wasnt impressed when i went out in one anyway.

im sure mike rainbird said that the fastest one down the strip was a 385bhp one and it did a 13.7. poor imo.shame as i like them alot.but they are disappointing.

Dojj for £30k i would want it to be competing and beating some of the 20-25 year old vehicles they were up against. I even saw an ST beat one and several other ST's were giving them a run for their money.

Hahaha, just because the owner chooses to hoof down the 1/4 mile... doesn't mean that was what Ford concentrated on when developing the RS?!

Its the same as when people say that something like DC2 Integra Type R is a shite car because they've seen one knocking in consistant 15s on the 1/4 mile... pretty short sighted viewpoint IMO.

They are also pretty heavy for a FWD.

i remember jim's motor doing a stonking 13.1 1/4 in his old sierra with about 200 brake so whatever magical mystery stuff is going on, perhaps the owners just wern't putting enough pedal to the metal to get the good times they were expected to get from joe public

besides, those 25 year old cars have had 25 years worth of effort spent trying t make them faster

Don't get me wrong i'm not wishing to offend anyone with a Mk2 RS cos it's not a complete dig at the car and i would still give my right arm for one (well maybe my left arm) as i think they are a stunning car and i'm sure you would have a big grin on your face after driving one on a circuit or a journey with some challenging roads but in terms of a drag strip race they didn't deliver what i expected them to. Maybe when they have been around for a few years a few people/tuners will have played around with them and they will put in some hotter times.
That said i was still surprised how many Mk 2 RS's did go up the track, i remember when the Mk1 first came out there weren't many going up the track for quite a while.
Anyway, anybody who does take their car up the track earns my respect regardless of car or time put in as without them the day wouldn't be half as entertaining as it is .

so it's just initial off the line poke then? the figures seem to suggest that once it's up and running it's into concorde mode

Problem is for same money or less you can get an evo X which is a far better car , 400+ bhp on a stage 1 tune easy 12ish sec 1/4's once tuned

There are also guys now running 500 bhp on the standard block and uprated turbo and ancilaries

there is no problem, have you seen an FRS inside compared to an evo not everyone wants an evo because it will be abit quicker

evo it mite be a bit quicker on 1/4 mile but you would expect that as it is 4wd but the same power focus mk2 would be quicker in 1/2 mile run

as said above it all still early days watch this space
