Why are cossies so shit!!!

Kind of true, there simple to us because we understand them, with Cosworths and cars alike you can't mess round with them unless you totally know what your doing and what implications it will have, many don't including the average mechanic, this is what causes the reliability issues and blown engines, set up correctly and maintained there is no reason why they arn't more reliable than modern cars as you say many don't have cats, airbags and electronic rubbish. Plenty have been thrashed and bodged by owners who could not afford to look after them.

serious????????
Mapping is the only complex part of a cossie, its a Sierra, with a modified pinto pig iron engine. Mapping is complex on most engines and is really only a Proffesionals job but jesus most cossies dont have Lambda control, cats, coil packs etc
If a mechanic cannot work on a cosworth, he shouldnt be a mechanic

well there a true old saying if its gots tits or wheels itl always give you problems lol
you cant live without either though.
they havnt invented magic dust yet to build cars from there all wearing / rotting parts so any car will fail in the end. all problems can be resolved with abit of time and patience though

They certainly aren't complex engines, or shit, mines just under 190,000 miles now, but is drinking nearly as much oil as petrol!!
Had the usual previous owner bodges to fix, inc 13 year old fuel filter, and as said a lot less to go wrong as there is a lot less gizmo's on them.

TBH, these cars are getting old and tired.
wiring is gonna be breaking down now. especially the injector loom and plugs in and around the head. get it all checked out before you start panicking.
once you know the wiring is up to the job. you can then get it re-tuned.
the loom that runs over and around the head etc is a common fault and is a poor ford build problem.

cossies r reliable cars, iv had 2 397bhp 4x4 &337bhp 3door with minimal problems and i drove them like i stole em, for the dicks that dont know much about cossies dont buy them, if u want a good cossie pay the doe and get a good 1, otherwise b ready 2 pay big bills, cossies r the most fun u would ever have being the owner of a m5 and tvr and freinds that have had numerous cars!!!

zetec turbo over yb anyday. iv got both, admittingly the cossie is faster slightly but has had its problems in the past whereas the little zetec @ 270bhp has never gone wrong at all, not even a single oil leak! and still on the same turbo after 25000 miles plus (hard miles too)
im expecting some dissagreement... lol
