Mapping question
Still having nightmares trying to get someone to map my RS Turbo. Does anyone on here know anyone with an emulator that can map my car, its running a Golf G60 ecu (don't ask). Most people say no and that i will have to fit an aftermarket ECU, which togeather with mapping is gonna cost in the region of £1000.
Thats alot of readies when you consider the motors coming off the road in october for a restoration. I'm willing to go anywhere in the south east or east midlands. I just want the car mapped for the summer so i can enjoy it without having to spend grands. Cheers in advance for any help.

Jamsport built the engine 5 years ago and used to be able to map em but broke their emulator. I do not want to spend grands getting a new ecu and map, I just want it mapped as is.

I'm a bit confused as to what an emulator is. The way i thought it worked is it was a device that tricked the golf ecu into thinking it was running a golf engine while being mapped.
as said further up. speak to vw tuners and tell them what you've got. you should be able to find one with a emulator. there is awesome gti in manchester but they are out of your area.
an emulator emulates (or pretends to be) a chip. the pc hooks up to the emulator and gives it the info to run the engine. the ecu then asks the emulator for the info. you make your adjustments to the info on the pc and the emulator passes the changed info to the ecu.

The equipment and software for mapping that VW ecu is very expensive and really not economical to buy yourself just for this one car !!!
As said, you need to take it to a specialist VW live mapper such as AMD, MSD etc
Otherwise, fit an aftermarket ecu depending on your chosen tuners choice as this will be cheaper and more accesable in the long run in my opinion.
There are some really good and cheap ecu's such as Omex, Megasquirt, Mtech etc....
In fact I think Mtech will fit and map a MS V4 ecu to your car all in for about £1000 and then anyone can update or map it after that with only a PC !!

Cheers for your help lads. Rung around about 6 companies today, VW and Ford, and no one wants to know. Looks like i'm gonna have to bite the bullet and get a new ECU, not happy. I originally asked for cossie management from the boys at Jamsport and they assured me they had something better! I'm now stuck with having to fork out more dough cos the ECU they supplied me is old hat and no one can touch it
Wouldn't know mate. But literally everyone I spoke to has balked at the mention of mapping it. Rung Sanspeed in Kent and they said they could probably read it but don't have the time for a couple of weeks and even then they said they couldn't put a price on it as they were unsure of how much better they could get it running. Most other place were having none of it. Do you know anyone who can help me?
If you insist on doing it with an emulator yourself that is only 5% of the problem.
you need the software and/or know the memory locations to edit and this will cost £1000's to buy the kit/information and will probably be only available to comercial establishments !!!!!!!!
Take it to a specialist or replace the ecu are your only viable options

Like I said no specialist will touch it. I realise now I'm gonna have to get a new ECU. But you must see why I'm pissed off. I never fucking asked for a VW Golf G60 ECu in the first place. I wanted cossie management and was fobbed off with something I was told was superior! Never mind, got to throw more money at the old girl!
Just been onto AMD and they said exactly the same thing...'What the hell has he done that for'. Wouldn't touch as they also said they no longer have the emulator software and they don't do Fords!
I am very surprised AMD wont do it !!
I guess modern cars dont need an emulator to modify where older stuff does. !
Try MSD... http://www.remapping.co.uk/
Failing this, the ecu must be ditched mate !! (The best way IMO)

Ta fella. I've resigned myself to that outcome. I probably won't bother now as it was coming off the road in october for a resto. I just wanted a bit of fun in it over summer, but i may as well take it off the road now and completely change the management when I build it back up. Shit happens
Who was it that told you to go for this ECU? Suerly the can map it?!!
As said, try MSD - they are your best bet for sure as they are true mapping specialist, not somebody that just copies ROMS..

Jamsport done the conversion. It was 5 years ago and other than this they done a good job. They all kept very hush hush about the ecu they were using. I can see why now.
They said they were unable to map it as their emulater was now broken and they could not get another one. SHIT HOT

All might not be lost. Spoke to Stu at motorsport developments today and he sounds pretty confident he can do it. Very Knowledgeable fella (even if most of the stuff he was talking about went way over my head). Just need to get a few bits of info off of Jamie at Jamsport about the ECU and software and, fingers crossed, the old girl will be getting sorted!!!!
