Default Anyone see Nick Clegg with Paxo just now

Anyone see Nick Clegg being interviewed by Paxman just now? I hate to say this but he actually came over as someone with a bit of sense, and someone who actually identifies with normal people.

He actually seems credible compared to old misery guts and Mr Shiney Face.

I thought Paxman was choking at the end, couldn't stop coughing. Made me laugh because that happened to me in a meeting a few weeks ago.

What does anyone else think?

Sorry, but I wouldn't trust the Liberal Democrats as far as I could throw them after having had them as part of the Scottish Government for 8 years when they were in coalition with Labour. They were spectacularly good at telling everyone what they think we want to hear, changing the script to suit the next audience, and failing to deliver anything even remotely worthwhile.

And now that they are out of power, they never tire of whining about the current government and pointing out HUGE priorities that need done now - yet, strangely, they didn't need done on their watch?

Can we sue them under Trades Descriptions for their name? They are certainly NOT liberal OR democratic! Everyone else is wrong and they are right. Always. They are positive we don't want independence but don't think we should be allowed to have a referendum to settle the matter, yet they support referenda in Wales, on Europe, on voting reform and christ knows what else. What are they so afraid of if they are so sure they are right?

Thought he came across well. They still won't get my vote, as IMO nothing's actually going to change unless you vote blue. A hung parliament would be a nightmare, as it would take so long to sort so it's either the current lot, or Cameron (who I personally think it the most false and un-with-it of all the main party leaders).

I'd vote for anyone who will abolish the anti-motorist campaigns with their never ending taxation and laws created to fine motorists for just thinking about a car.

But that aside, they are all as corrupt and dishonest as each other

Easy to say what he does because he knows he'll never get elected and have to deliver on it all.

But at least he has the bollocks to say he'd put up taxes etc to pay for things.

Too many people think that the country has pots and pots of cash for which to pay for everything and its nothing to do with taxing the population.

So if you want proper public services the money has to come from somewhere and that is tax in one form or another.

The public have demanded lower taxes, so income tax has come down, but it has to be raised in other ways, hence all these so called 'stealth' taxes.

personally I think they should legalise cannabis in the same was as it is in Amsterdam, tax it and control it and do the same with prostitution, legalise, control and tax it.

Soon get rid of the defecit.

You are hopefully right that he won't win power, but you need to know that, in the run-up to the 1999 elections his party campaigned against the chancellor's decision to cut income tax by 1p. Then the SNP said they too would abolish the 1p cut and devote the money to preserve public services. And then the Liberals decided to campaign FOR the cut.

Now they've changed their tune. Again. And will do it again and again and again.

that will never happen sadly as they will always have a "just" excuse to screw motorists, be it saving lives, or the environment.

Since when did any politician HAVE to deliver on anything?

There's a very good reason why a pre-election manifesto isn't legally binding!

what i'd like to see is a ring fencing of money piad by people in taxes for certain things so that they could only be spent on those thins the tax was paid on

so all these motoring taxes, added up, would only be spent on transport

national insurance? only on hospitals and the like

income tax, on everything else, proportionally depending on what was needed

so, for a very simple example:

you earn £100
you pay £20 tax that goes to the governemnt to do shit with like paying for policemen's truncheons to beat up innocent women and children with or duck moats or whatever they decide they ned to spend it on
you pay £10 ni, to go twards hospitals and looking after types of things
you've filled your car up with the remainder of your money and the 65% tax goes on transport, raods, public transport, shit like that, but no the trains becuse they get funded by privatiers
council tax should only be used to clean up shit from your streets, take your rubbish away and fix the stretlights and swerage system and pay for park keepers to roam the parks kicking kids out of tennis courts and the like, same as when we were kids

that sort of thing, be it workable or not in your eyes, would be the most honest approach

oh, and before i get off my soap box, people who get caught fiddling their benifits, no more benifits for a year, of any sort

and when i say fiddling i mean fiddling, not some accountancy cock up where they've given you 5 tiems as much money as you should have been getting, then you'd just go back to normal payments etc

and no child beinifit for more than 2 kids, assuming the parents are still together, if they ain't then they get one kids benifit each and no more

no more "this is our council hose, we grew up in it, we ain't moving out" boolcks either, you want to stay in you house, you pay for it, then we'll see how long you want to stay there

one more thing, fuck them asylum seeker coonts out the door first, don't let them stay here for 15 years, have kids and a family and then tell us "we would be breakig their human rights"

give them food vouchers that they can only use in aldi or lidl and tell them to shack up in one room blocks of flats, as soon as you get retina scanned at the check out you can take away what you've got in the basket

yes, i'd be a cunt if i was in charge, but at least thigns would work (hopefully not like that mugabe fella though, although i wouldn't miond being on that list of despots who own'd mercedes grosers )

.... and the stupidest.

Have you ever heard of cashflow? Balance sheets?

Honestly!

He didn't write it very well, but it is a fair point he's trying to make.

I don't go to the opera so don't want to pay for it. Same with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan - I don't think we should be there and don't want to pay for that either. If the government had to go to the country and say "We want £x off you to pay for a new opera house, or to fight an illegal war. How about it?" it could end up a fairer system and as for cashflow, money in money out over a period so sometimes one department budget may subsidise another for periods of time but so long as each department squares up as agreed there is no problem.
