Sorry to hi-jack an old thread....

I assume this car was found complete? Its just there is a pic of it in the new Fast Ford at one of the RSOC shows looking immaculate, with the owner winning a trophy.

Glad its in safe hands and would be interested to hear what happened? Ie how it was found etc.

Cheers

It has also been advertised for sale for top money recently with no mention whatsoever of it being previously stolen...

Of course he knows, has just chosen not to mention the 'minor' fact in his 34k asking price

Imagine buying it for Ł34k, come on here with pictures to show off your 'as new' escort cosworth only to be told its stolen and recovered.

Why not the usual witch hunt and stupid questions to an ebayer who has clearly been 'caught out' then?

But if it was stolen recovered and insurance paid out then why does it not show up on a HPI check? Thought that's what they were there for!

I dont really see why stolen recovered is an issue....it could be a Cosworth that has been driven hard for a short time.....that is not much of a shock and if it is mint now then it is mint?

Cosworths have been known as a thiefs wet dream in the past, I imagine one or two on here have been.

Because its 34 grand I guess,,, stolen recovered is not going to increase value

Another question is if that is not mentioned,,,, are there some miles removed each year too ?

If you fail on obvious what about easy lies ?

Wrong ! some right tossers on here anyone that is serious about the car will be told everything about it i dont know gary who owns it but he seems a decent fella , im sure this had a place in the bonkers collection as well this car , it only had a few things taken off it that were easily put back on the previous owner who had the car stolen seemingly paid alot of money to have the cars history intact & not put on the v car in any way its not like it was hotwired & rallied away by boy racers with damaged locks etc.

All the above is info from previous threads i have read regarding this car

I have seen it at a local show & its out the box its stunning faultless escort cosworth

The reason it wont show on HPI is it was stolen in ireland, and ireland have there own HPI system and when a car comes over here it wont show on our system, if you HPI it over in ireland then it will NOT be clear unless hpi'd in northern ireland

Thats exctly why it was sold over here

And regadless how minimal it was it was still stolen recovered as a loss so regardless of condition it affects value and as also said if lie about history who says its not been vlocked a few times also! This is exactly why i love this forum for occasions such as this i would be fucking pissed to the point i would contemplate killing someone if i handed ove Ł40+k and then found out it was cat c/d

Cars are worth what people want to pay but a former stolen car is just that,,,, no matter how minor which also puts the miles in question,,,, like how did it get from Ireland to Scotland and a few shows with around 600 miles in 7 years ???

Don't think that sounds a but off ?

How does he mot or even use it to keep it in running order ?

I had a saph that was registered in northern ireland and on the irish plate flz1540 it was clear but only 6 month old - the time it was in ireland but on the brittish reg is was total loss on J952EUB , this is not the case with that escort

The owner paid alot of money for it to be clear not sure how it was done but he did

It isn't on the register as a cat c/d car, and i'm sure the car is everything it should be,, BUT its past does effect its value

Surely if you're forking out that much cash for a car you'd do your homework and will discover its past?

Having said that - as long as it's as good as it looks it being nicked wouldn't put me off - it's not as if it was rolled and badly repaired of anything.

What cosworth hasnt got a past!

Some naive people thinking because their cars are hpi clear that theyve never been crashed, ragged, stolen or stripped!

You only know about the ones that get plastered over the net!!!

Am i right or am i right!?

The only car you can be sure of is the one you buy brand new! Or family / personal friend have had it from brand new!

Basically all the checks do is stack things in you favor! The car could have been driven away from the break in on a low loader under a tarp.... then found, trailerd away to the police pound, then owner buy it off the insurance company, trailers it home.... you get the picture.

now the car is fixed so it can actually drive, but the new owner trailers it anyway!

short of draining the oil from the engine before running it round a rally course this car will probably be in better nick than most other cossies!

My old car which was stolen from me
Just to clarify the car is NOT recorded on any Hpi register and had no marker against it. When it was recovered the car was partially stripped I bought the car back from the insurance company for a premium to ensure the car would not have any markers against it
As I had an agreed valuation I was given first refusal to buy it back
The car was recovered by the Police and collected by a local breakdown company
The car was then rebuilt by John Taylor who had previously owned it -the only part that needed replaced was a side skirt clip
To be honest the theft and break-in sickened me so much that once the car was rebuilt I sold it to John for what I paid the insurance company for it he then in turn sold it on
Still looks stunning in the pics just glad it was recovered rather than being lost forever

Plenty cars on Ebay everyday smashed and not recorded, sold onto someone who repairs and puts back on the road, never registered, sure theres plenty inc Cosworths that seem like they are clean that have had this done over the years!

Then theres people that buy cars with previous history to have a story behind it etc, why does it have to be negative for this if it didnt have any damage etc, and is in perfect condition, sure it would be a good talking point about the car if it ticks all the other boxes for a buyer.

As for value, i cant comment there, other than if it was what i was looking for and was willing to pay around the price, it wouldnt stop me buying it.

same here, i bought a brand new frozen white ST-2 in 2007 and when the paint depth was
measured the nearside front wing was 3x the rest of the car.

a new car can have paintwork done but no filler work to be deemed as still being new.

the car looks stunning and a real credit to both you and john
