Right as usual i don't think i can go on for much longer without a Saff in my life.

However this time it may have a twist.

Ive always had modified 4wd now ive put up with all the gayness for years about being poof wheel drive and you cant drive a real one etc etc.

So i may be up to go down the 2wd route.

What worries me is smashing it into something, i dont consider myself a bad driver but my M3 nearly caught me out once in the wet so would a cossie be worse.

Does it break traction in all the gears?

Please no pub talk, whats it like, ive had a standard saff 2wd for like 5 days but it was boggo and i drove it less than 5 miles (never in anger)

is a 330 2wd scary lol? Does it kick out a lot. The reason why i say is it seems nothing but a saff seems to excite me if you see what i mean.

Ive had a lot of quick cars but got bored of all of them, its time to stick with something but i dont know what to go for.

I was liking the magenta one on here and was close to buying it but engine issues put me off.

Either that or im going to blow it all out and buy a focus RS but the fwd and future depreciation is putting me off.

I wonder if a T4 2wd breaks traction when it comes onto boost aswell lol.

Is it better to just find a 2wd or are they all a lot more rustier than the later 4x4s

a lot more 4x4 are looked after more than 2wd's as about 80% of 2wds are abused(driven properly) lol

I would always have the 2 wheel for fun, mine is 350bhp on standard 15"s and in the wet it can certainly get very lively in all gears, I've had it catch me out and go sideways in 3rd gear onto a dual carriageway in the dry as well that woke me up!

Get a focus, nice everyday car that you wont be afraid to drive.

Think its getting harder to find nice 2wd's. I have a 4wd and if i keep it, am considering converting it to 2wd, 4wd is good for grip on the twisties etc, but trying to get decent power through them is an expensive thing, and getting the power down is a nightmare cos all they seem to do is bog down.

ive voted for 2wd lots of fun and rewarding . Think theres a few 4x4 cars converted but it,ll never be a true 2wd i suppose, they have that 80,s feel and appearance down to a tea!!

i dont own one but have driven a stage 3 2wd saff and a stage 3 escos, the escos felt boring and not that lively, but the saff felt like a animal in comparison, scary but much better than the escos so if i had a cos it would have to be 2wd.

Yes the rear wheel drive can sometimes catch you out ,as it did with me 3 weeks ago on the a12 when i planted my foot at 80mph and it went sideways , i laugh about it now but at the time i did shit my pants.


But

I had the 4x4 saff catch me out a few times, you tend to take the piss out of it thinking its 4x4 etc but they can still slide out ,it all depends what you really want from the car, either way you wont have it for longer than a month so go for whatever nice one comes up first .

Not interested in the doing donuts bit its being able to get big power without the need to spend fortunes on gearboxes and diffs.

Im trying to imagine doing a full bore launch in a 450bhp 2wd saff and changing into second. Would i be completely sideways, its the snaking up the road bit like my skyline used to that i fancy.

hi, my saph was originally 4x4, after a year and a half i converted to 2wd. i drive it hard to say the least. i do prefere 2wd but a part of me still regrets the change, u cant really race in the wet, whereas before i could race anytime any wheather. my 2wd will not wheel spin in 3rd in a strail line in the wet 330 bhp. (unless its a slippery type of road.
its only a toy in the rain, but a tool in the dry

always love the 2 v's 4wd thingy........i've only had 4x4's,but have driven 2wd's in anger aswell......everyone i know goes on about 2wd are the REAL cossies, then they get in mine and say......"fuck me u cant do that in a 2wd"..........mine still goes sideways anytime i want it to in the dry and in the wet can spin through 3rd gear.........

i voted 2WD as i own one

i've had mine 1 year and a half now, i went from a 130bhp 2.0 Fiesta Si to my Saph so was my 1st RWD car

i dont drive mine that hard as i'm still learning about the car so its not really caught me out properly yet

i've had the odd moment doing 70mph and it wanting to go into another lane and it would spin up in 5th in the wet when it came on boost but i put that down to the shite tires i had on as i was using some temp wheels

i had P7000's on my RS7's, traction was an issue when gunning it in 1st,2nd and some of 3rd gear but had grip from then on and hadno traction issues in 5th in the wet with these

i have been giving it a few more beans lately and had some sideways action when launching off from traffic lights

cant comment on a 4x4 tho as i've not driven one to compare it to my 2WD

I'm in the process of converting my 4x4 saph to 2wd at the moment.

When it was 4x4 I was running 450bhp so it wasn't exactly a slouch but found it very boring towards the end so while the engine was coming out for a rebuild, I thought I'd convert it to 2wd.

Last year, a mate lent me his stage 3 moonstone 2wd saph for a few days and I just found it a lot nicer to drive and a lot more fun! Thats what swayed me towards converting to 2wd.

Tbh, both 2 and 4 wheel drive have thier good points and bad points IMO.

With 2wd, the gearboxes are very strong as standard, I find them a lot nicer to drive, a lot easier to work on etc but you do have to respect them a lot more as they do bite!! Lol!

With 4x4, they are more sure footed on the road as you would expect but the transmission is a lot more fragile than the 2wd stuff and there is more of it to break not to mention the cost of upgrading all the parts.

So I guess it all boils down to what you actually want to achieve from the car. For me at the mo, I'm gonna vote 2wd!

just converted my escos to rwd best thing i ever did ,love how the 2wd drive train goes and handles ,yes its harder too controll in general but ,lots more fun ,,yes it can bite you but so can a 4x4 just not as easy too lose....m last saff was 500bhp and now escos 330 bhp will be 500 soon .......rwd also easier on gearboxes,diffs etc etc i personally hate the ford cosworth 4x4 gear change ,you have to wait a week before changing gear ,2wd just smash it in totally transformed my car ,obviously i am biased to rwd ,once you have a big power 2wd cosworth nothing is as good imo anyway its up to you, just my view on the matter

As I've just said on jumbos post my first saff was 380 bhp and rwd. Would peak 32 psi on a t35 and it was a bit lively in the wet nut wasn't how you think it might be in the dry. It won't just step out round corners and was perfectly usable. I just took it easy and sloly learnt how the car reacted and so on. It's a LOT more fun as i found even when I got used to the power it was still fun to drive/arse out etc... Donor you certainly won't regret it.
And as for converting from 4x4 I looked at doing it too as it's a better engine to start with.

Mine isn't set up yet but i think its around 400 with a T4, to be honest it doesn't break traction but you can feel it trying to, this is with all new rear bushes, rainbird shims a P zero tyres.
