Been thinking of geting rid of the mondeo and buying a 530d on about an 02 plate as I do alot of miles so fancy the comfort and auto box
Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with these and if theres anything I need to look out for?

No experience of the diesels, but I have a 51 reg 525 sport and it's a fucking AWESOME mile muncher!! I would recommend changing the gearbox oil on autos. BMW in their infinite wisdom class them as sealed for life, but if you change the oil every couple of years they pretty much last forever.

I,ve recently bought a 530D Sport Auto on an 03 plate and i absolutely love it. I bought it to replace our Saab 95 turbo which was returning about 20mpg and I,m now seeing up to 40mpg. Mind you it does seem to be the sort of car which begs to be thrashed and it goes like shit of a shovel. Add all that to the fact that i can sit and watch TV in it during my luch break at work and you,ll see why i love it so much. I,m sure Graceland of here will be on here soon as he knows a lot about them .

Had a manual 530d Sport 3 years ago - cracking car, would reccomend it to anyone!
150mph cruising on the autobhan aswell - which is superb for a deezil and then when you want to be sensible it'll return 45mpg![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
Looking to buy another in June - either that or save up a bit more and get an E60 530d M-Sport instead

ROFL the "upgrades" were rather naughty but worked wonders on the Autobhan
and I still have various kits for that sort of thing ![Wake up the gimp!](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/454055f7.gif)
I seem to remember Shorty enjoying the cool 18 degrees celcius in the car while you sweltered in 30+ when driving to the 'Ring

Sorely tempted for another but they seem to be very few and far between thesedays

True - In hindsight I should of kept mine really - BUT the spec interior wise wasn't what I originally wanted so would never of been 100% happy with it ![Sad](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)
Also the majoirty that our out there on the market are auto's aswell - As good as the BMW auto box is, I prefer a stick to stir

Is it possible to get one for under £5k? Or in around that money, maybe £5.5k? My dad is looking something like that but thats all he can stretch to at the minute.

If you want an auto and properly scour the small ads you might be able to, they'll be high miles but don't let that put you off - I did 15k in mine and it had 124k on it when I sold it ![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
Haggling is the best way - In this recession money talks as a lot of people are selling cars to downsize or pay their bills etc etc so go in with a stupid offer and wave the cash under the sellers nose - odds on they'll take it

just the swirl flapps on the inlet manifold that let go and take the engine with them had to have the 330d sport rebuilt after they went

I had an E60 one a couple of years ago on a 54 plate and it was awesome. Returned really good MPG and was fast as fook.
I had the Auto box, Rain Sensor Wipers, Bluetooth Phone Interface and Alloys from the options list.
ONLY sold it to purchase an E46 M3 SMG.

Thanks for the advice everyone!...I'm going to look at a 530d m sport auto on a 51 plate on the weekend
Wots the crack with these swirl flaps? is it a common problem for these to break up?

I`ve been and seen the only 530d sport manual I can find, really tidy and full bmw history, new tyres and brakes ect, the works. Its got 168,000 miles on it though, is it worth getting as the price is very reasonable. Just worried about the amount of miles on it.

He`s looking £4k but could probably get it cheaper. If you know of any good ones for sale across the water we`d be interested as there are literally no manual ones over here.

Not looked at this thread for a while now but i've found a e39 530d sport tourer...I've been to look at it and its mint, with a full history and a shit load of extras including tv...only thing slightly off putting is the mileage....128k
I've spoken to the garage and they said they'll do a deal on my st tdci...only thing is i'll be going from a car with 36k on the clock to 128k
whats your oppinions?....

I wouldn't worry about the mileage. I'd have a high mileage BM'er to a Mondeo any day. In fact I have a 152k miles 530 sat outside but it's not for sale as it's a useful pool car for us.

Not sure how I felt after removing the flaps....... An inspction showed them to be fine, allbeit covered in black sludge, though it does not give me peace of mind for the future![Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

It not that bad to do, I just found it time consuming (2-2.5hours, inc 30mins cleaing the EGR valve) as the scuttle panel has to be removed to get the inlet manifold off and I gave that a good clean around the drainage holes where quite a bit of muck had gathered!
