just bought 6 months tax online and received 5 months
I sorned my car over the winter and taxed it online on the 29th April only to receive a disc which runs out 31st August.Cheeky barstards have sent me 5 mths tax 
. Have i been tucked up or should i have waited untill Aprill actually started before i bought the tax?

This is a big fault with the online system, - and I'm sure they leave it as it gets them even more money.
If you go into a post office you can tax an a SORNed car from the start of the following month two days before the month starts. E.g. you can tax from the 1st April on the 30th/31st March.
You can't do this online, - it will force you to tax from the first March right up to 11:59PM on the 31st. Of course - if you waited until the first you wouldn't get your disc until several days later, and of course the price goes up from 1st April as well.
I had to go into the Post Office on Wednesday to tax mine just to avoid this.

I had this with my bike this year. SORNed it for once and even when I 'eventually' spoke to a human at DVLA she could still only back date it
I pointed out that the site states to allow 5 days for the disc to arrive and I wanted it for the 1st etc etc and she said go to the Post Office

Last time I taxed it the disc never came at all
when I noticed and rang they said I was too slow in letting them know and tryed to charge me for a duplicate 
Ran for the rest of the year with no disc

it shows the dates before you go on to the payment and it would have said 1/03/10 and not 1/04/10 as i also looked at doing mine and noticed that you couldnt
