Right the other day i passed my test an there was a disscusion abouit how much my insureance was as its £4500, well ive just swopped my insureance over to my dads car which is a v6 vectra because the xr2 is goin in to hav a new sill an my insureance has gone down a grand :S how does this work

xr2 is classed as a hot hatch so they will sing young drivers for anything llike that plus can't believe you pay that my insurance

but the vectra is a hatch aswell an thats the cheapest i could get it

noooooo, a vectra is a large family saloon car with a hatch style boot. Thats certainly not the same as a "hot hatch" which is a fast small hatchback car.

Thats why a vectra is cheaper to insure as its a barge.

Newer car, less of a 'boy racer' image, better security, better safety rating etc...

Loads more factors to an insurance premium than just how quick something is.

As said any hot hatch especially fast fords are deemed high risk and as such due to your age coupled to the fact you have just passed your test = a high insurance premium, the car you have at the moment is not hot just got a 2.5 V6 or 3.2 if new model engine and as said isn't a hot hatch rather a saloon, at the other end of the scale is sports saloons which insurance is high on.

cos xr2 is group 14 ins.
a vectra will be about a group 9-10

p.s xr2 is a twocers dream
