Default Uk bike licence

Im moving back to Blighty this year, and i really want to get myself a bike. I've been riding for the past 2 1/2 years abroad but i do not hold a Uk licence.

I believe CBT is first, but what i want to do is just pay one company to put me through everything.

Also, once i pass the test what limits are there regarding engine size? I have been riding a 250cc for most of my trip here, and i would like to get something similar at home to get comfortable, then move on to bigger bikes.

There are schools that will sort it all out for you mate. You just tell them when you are availale and they will arrange lessons, CBT and tests around you. Cost me £600 all in, that was 10 hours of lessons, CBT, theory, Part 1 and Part 2 tests all sorted and arranged by them round my times.

How old are you? The only restriction once you pass is age, iirc if you are under 21 you get restricted to 125cc or 33bhp. Apart from that you can jump on anything you can insure

You will need to do your CBT, this allows you to ride upto 125cc geared or non geared motorcycles with L plates, you will then need to retake this every two years unless you go on to do your full motorcycle licence. Assuming you are over 21 then you will be able to do your DAS (Direct Access) This involves 3 elements.

First you will need to take your theory test, this involves answering 50 questions and then a hazard perception video where you have to assess hazards as they develop.

Then onto the riding part. You have to do Module One which is an off road test which involves riding round cones, emergency stop, swerve manoevre, slow control and parking. Usually lasts 15-20 mins.

Then you have to do Module 2, which is a pretty standard on road assessment where you will be followed by an examiner usually on a bike, sometimes in a car, much like a standard UK driving test and this last for about 40 mins.

Provided you are over 21 and do all this then there is no restriction to what bike you can ride.

I'm 27, so that wouldn't be a problem. For some reason I had it in my head that once you pass there's a two year period where you are restricted? 600 quid sound great with lessons

One more thing, I know there are some very experienced riders on here and I'm wondering what you would recommend for a first bike? I want something between a sports bike and a tourer? If there's no restriction on 'cc' then maybe I should be considering something a little bigger?

Well because it'll be my first 'big' bike id like to buy something cheap, a couple of grand maximum. I think its a fair assumption to say im going to come off at some point so something that's cheap fix

cbt then take a lesson or 2 and test
i wouldnt put in for a complete kit as you pay for being a novice and you aint

take your test on a 600 and you can ride anything, my 1st bike was a fireblade and i still have it, and another fireblade too but im selling that soon

cbt £100
lessons £30 p/h
test £130 (ish depending on bike borrow etc)

dont be scared of a big bike, i dont need to upgrade my blade but if i got a 400 -600 i'd be pissed, i went on a cbr6 the other day and it was sooo shit it was untrue, because im used to the blade tho i expect

my blade cost me a grand

my 2nd niced blade is goi up for £1700 loadst of carbon, new avons etc , i rode it home from wales and only used for 2 little trips after that, my 1st is dynojetted and tinkered with and very very fast so i pref that

I thought there were two types of test-

1, Allows you to ride a restricted bike for two years before getting a big bike

2, Direct Access test, costs more to take but you can get straight on a 1200cc bike when you pass?

first you need to do a cbt

then a theory test and hazzard perseption test at the same time

as your over 21 you will not be restricted on bike size but if you took your test say on a 250 then you will belimited to a certain cc powered bike for 2 years,

the new test is in 2 parts with a swerve test and something else( i did my test before this came out)

then you have the normal test to do

i done a direct access and had 2 lessons and my main test at £450

Take a cbt on a 125 then see how many day's you need with them. Any cunt can ride a bike but doesnt mean they'll pass the test

cbt the bike will be included

the main test, if you dont want to go direct access then book a few lessons and ask them to put you in for the test and pay to hire there bike for the test

but the direct access included my 2 lessons, my test, the bike and insrance

you carnt use yoru own bike as how will you get insured on it with no license and you would have to ride there
