Captain RN???? or had his command qualification??? To be the CO of a carrier he would have had his Masters Ticket (RN STCW quals are at Deck officer and Masters level nothing in between.).

You do Frigate navigating officers course (no STCW equivilent) as a Lt (2nd officer) and would do the role for a 2-3 years before becoming Lt Cdr (1st officer) in typical surface roles. Youd then do operations based jobs doing OOW watchkeeping on the side for the next 4 years while you study and do your exams for your ship command/masters ticket. We do the same kind of ship stability crap and all those modules like ive seen on STCW syllabus for masters quals.

Its different in subs, where i come from, but same STCW qualifications just in a compressed time frame as you spend less time on surface nav. Id done STCW OOW in 2002 and was navigating and had done most of by ship command exams when i left subs.

I know the RFA value RN nav. Course as they offered me a job a couple years back but i wasnt in a position to take it up . I kind of expected with RFA being merchant fleet manned and trained that if they were aware of RN quals then most of the rest of the merchant fleet would have an awareness?

ok folks so the interview was today , went really well ,

had a result in a couple i know where in there looking for a industrial hoover and saw me filling a form in at the counter , asked me for assisiance instead of two of the guys who work there in front of the manager lol

so told him ill just sort this out and finish on the paperwork in a sec

anway once out of earshot told them the crack and when they went to pay they said i was very helpful ha ha

after that iterview went well , all the usual shite questions and answering everything as best i can ,

so theve just said that they had more to interview and they would let me know at some point in the next week or so ,

ohh and they want me to work weekends
