Default cossie fuel tanks, where from?

anywhere else do them other than obviously ford and theres a company selling them on ebay?!

Tried quite a few motor factors now and none of them seem to stock tanks anymore!!

Dont think you can get a genuine ford tank anymore as theres none left.

Will be aftermarket ones that dont like you having less than a qaurter tank of fuel lol

I want one for my race car, coming out of the hairpin at croft with less than half a tank results in no fuel for 100yards!

cheers, waiting on a call back from a couple more i tired.

Managed 2 snap the fuel return pipe off the tank on mine as it was badly corroded, have brazed a new pipe in place so gonna try refitting it when the rain stop too see if its worked but obviously its only a short term solution as the tank is pretty ropey

The place on ebay charges £70 which isnt too bad really, but be handy to get one from somewhere local!!

far as i know their all the same mate, the one on ebay says it fits 3doors and saphs ect as long as they have the external pumps, u just have to make sure they have the swirl pots inside!!

There are very slight differences in the tnaks between 3 door 2wd and 4wd, but all will fit each other, the sculting is slightly different on some depending on which company made them, ford used three main ones.
The early ones were made by a subsidiary of Mercedes Benz, that's why the plastic swirl pots have a mercedes stamp on them, these are about the best ones swirl pot wise.
There are other pattern ones that are made using the original stamps and dies that were sold off years ago, these ones have MADE IN CANADA on them, they're next best.
I know some Hadrian tanks do have swirl pots, and some do not, obviously despite what they say they are using at least 2 suppliers.

ok, found a pic on ebay of one of a 2nd hand tank, looks like the short tube thats on mine thats disconnected should be on the breather bit on the tank in the middle, then the long pipe going round the tank should connect to the pipe on the white bit with nothing on?!

Should i change it or leave it?! obviously someones messed about with it at some point!!

When i changed mine a few years ago i went for a cheap tank and it didn't have a swirl pot (was a bit rushed and didn't do much research) worst idea ever. Gonig round a corner at speed car cut-out/jump around/misfired for about ten seconds then went back to normal. So had enough of that and luckily found a very good second hand one off here.... And 3 years later it's still ok... Also get a new Ford strap as 9times out of 10 they have stretched and not re-fit correctly (these are still floating about on the bay new) Here are a photo of when it was changed and a picture of the pot in the old tank i removed...

I don't use the valve bit, just the breather that goes into filler neck, plus a smal breather on tank top.
Would be a good idea to get 3 captive nuts that the bolts go into as well, all mine broke, ford still sold them about 2 years ago, don't forget the noise pads between tank and box section when refitting, drums like buggery if not fitted!!

well i just plummed it in like in the pic off ebay in the end and its all bolted up, yea the 3 captive nuts snapped!! got 2 off fine but the one that holds the strap on the area in the cavity is so small i cant pull the snapped bolt out so just cable tied it for now, the other 2 ive just fitted 2 bolts and nuts till i get a decent tank and some new captive nuts, only to get it mobile again at the mo!! didnt have any noise pad either so guess thats missing lol, has it got to be a specific material?! will need it for when i fit a new tank!!

guess by valve bit u mean the white one?! so u just have a pipe coming off the black breather bit then then the long breather tube with the cone bit on the end?!

Has been a slow start stop job thanks to the bloody rain

I hope the fuel tank is nowhere near full - I wouldn't want about 60kg of fuel being partially supported by a cable tie

Know its not ideal but theres 2 on it plus the other 2 have bolts holding it up there, never fill it up anyway only put enough each day to get me to work and back, and certainly not going to untill it gets a proper bolt to hold it!! unfortunaly there was alot of the bolt stuck in the captive nut bit that snapped so think the only way of getting it out will be cutting one side of the area to slide it out then welding it back up.

On the plus side the repair on the tank is holding so will do for now, would have sorted it properly but my main work horse needs a fair bit of work and moting, althou the amount of extra in fuel the cossie has cost me prob would have paid for it all by now

PS its metal ones not plastic ones!!!
