How to set Cam Timing using a Vernier Pulley?
Been having a look at the 205 today, we have found all sorts of things not quite right since its poor performance on the dyno and its already a hell of a lot quicker. we thought we would check the cam timing since nearly everything else was wrong which we had taken for granted had already been set up.
its a 1360 TU series, it has got a Piper fast road cam fitted (mildest of the range). Piper say this cam should be set to 109 deg. The markings on the vernier show it set to 110 deg but this isn't accurate, right?
never dialled a cam in before, this is how we did it, does it sound right?
set piston 1 to TDC using a DTI gauge,
fit timing disc to bottom pulley behind the main bolt,
line up 0 deg with a dab of tipex on one of the cambelt cover bolts.
set the DTI gauge up on no1 inlet rocker,
turn engine over until gauge shows inlet valve fully open,
read off the angle shown on the disc.
kinda difficult to turn the engine over slow enough to do it accuratly but we reckon the valve was fully open at about 107-108 and closing again at 110-111.
so we figured 109 was in the middle and left it at that,
does this sound correct?
