Default New Apple MacBook...

Does anyone know if a new Apple macBook Pro will be released soon? Im tempted to buy one, but a mate said a new one is due out soon. I cannot find any info on it, but I don't wanna spend £1200 on a computer that will be superseeded in under 6months or so (Apple haven't changed processors, etc in 4 years apparently). I spoke to Apple who said "We cannot confirm or deny rumours"

Has anyone got any info on a new one and if possible a release date? If one's not out this year I will buy a current spec one and be happy with it

Cheers.

Yes there is a new one out soon, it's already being discounted by the retailers (Currys and Dixons) which is a sure sign it's fairly imminent.

I've got a few friends 'in the know' and it will be out soon, but won't be radically different to the current one. I'm taking it as an opportunity to get one of the 'old' models at a great price rather than paying top-dollar for a new model.

I just got a MacBook pro in December there. It's an awesome bit of kit!

If you know anyone at college/uni, get them to buy it for you as they do big student discounts. Think I got £120 off mine, which paid for AppleCare for 3 years and some of the Microsoft office I got.

Check the price -
http://www.dixons.co.uk/gbuk/apple-m...48119-pdt.html

Admittedly eyewateringly high for the PC brigade, but it's a steal compared to Apple's price!

to the Op i know various people with mac book pros and they are an awesome bit of kit, all macs are to be fair.

I have the 27 inch Imac and was always a pc guy that couldnt understand why macs were so expensive, however i did work on them during the day occasionally and still do so i knew what they were all about.

then i bought one and now hate everything microsoft have to offer.

Still not one virus not one crash and ive only rebooted about 3 times in the 6 months ive had it.

Dont let the usual jealous ones talk you out of it.

They are awesome!

so your paying about 300 to 400 notes for a operating system?

I don't know about you, but thats a rip of.

I like the Unix ish shell, but if I wanted a stable unix ish operating system, I can down load one.

just does not make sense to me.

I am in Brenford, working with EMC this week, and I had a confo with some of the people over a coffee regarding this subject and they agree.

Blah blah blah. Why can't PC people realise that not everyone wants to be PC drones, not everyone likes the pointless geekyness of PCs, not everyone thinks Windows is cool, not everyone wants to battle with viruses and not everyone compares computers' specs like a game of top trumps. Some people believe that the OS is worth every penny because they want to spend more on what they consider to be an all round better computer experience.

You and your boffin buddies could spend a week explaining to me exactly why I should buy a PC and it wouldn't make me change my mind in the slightest.

Hes got some serious problem with them, either that or Steve Jobs f**ked his wife or something.

once u go mac u never go back!! ive studied both mac and windows and mac is far superior to windows. battery life lasts 6hours, sexy design, they dont slow down, it never crashes, doesnt get super hot like a laptop macs dont have any fans they have some cooling system so u dont burn ur legs..

if u can wait just hang in there for the new macbook pro..thats what im doing!!

u wont needta buy another laptop for a good 6 years providing u treat it nicely..

windows are more popular but u get so much more bullshit i.e viruses, system errors
etc

i payed 1600quid for my dell xps m170 5 years ago its still running smooth but the hard drive is full and its a bit too chunky for portable use..im using my mates macbook pro and im in love with it!! once u get the hang of using a mac u'll understand why businesses buy mac...because they never crash and overall are really userfriendly

im not too sure when the new mac is being released but im defo gonna get one!

Thanks for the input so far. Nothing will put me off buying a Mac

I noticed PC World was not stocking the 991 which is what Im after. There are a lot of "Old spec" ones about if the new one is launched. Do we have any idea when the new one is out?

@ the mac lovers thinking its " worth it " you get a different look and a different OS that is not something that IMO is worth double or even triple the price

im sure if i tried to talk some people into buying the civic type-r mugen at 40k over any other hot hatch the mac lovers would say exactly what the pc people do about macs

You've answered your own criticism there though. IMO a Mac is easily worth the extra premium over a PC. I really dislike PCs, and the whole Windows thing. Even if PCs cost £50 I still wouldn't consider one. If you're happy to eat Tescos Value meals then that's fine. Me, I like to pay more for their Finest range!

etc etc

i would like to hear about a few of the following

Mac OS X was hacked in 2006 under 30 minutes, and hacked within 2 minutes in a contest in 2008. Linux and Vista were not able to be hacked until another day when restrictions were lowered

The disadvantages in owning a MacBook is easy. The new MacBooks don't have Firewire, capability to run Blue Ray, utlize an external eSata drive. Without Firewire or Media memory storage capability, your only means to move Pix, Video is by USB 2.0 (the slowest and most inconsistent means possible).

What happens when you want to upgrade your mac??

If im into games how do i go on about playing them on my mac??

you really do talk the biggest load of bollocks of anyone on here. I remember the specs you put up last time proving windows was faster LMAO.

i then got graphs that showed it wasnt.

Because there are people like you on the internet there are always negative people that test a mac.

They have a ridiculously low failure rate especially compared to anything Microsoft produce.

And are you calling me a liar.

6 months not one crash not one virus.

Friend of mine uses his mac all day every day not one crash not one need to rbuild nothing.

They are better...

But yes you have to pay more.

part of life im afraid. you get what you pay for!

if youre into games buy a PS3

when you feel like upgrading youre mac sell youre old one for maybe £200 less than what you paid what will you get for youre £800 pc?

200 quid on ebay! if it doesnt need a new power supply or ram or the cpu fan doesnt sound like a plane taking off, until it stops working and blows youre processer

I'm not going to get into silly tit-for-tar my Atari ST is better than your Amiga style argument. I glazed over when you recited the list of PC functions because I don't care. My Mac does all that I want and there is not a single PC only feature that Ive ever craved.

I just prefer the interface and that's pretty much all there is to it. I am the first to admit I'm a blinkered Mac fanboy, but I don't see that as an insult in the slightest. You go ahead and play World of Warcraft and transfer files at a gazillion parsecs a second if it makes you happy! Me, I'm more than satisfied with my Macs!

youres is 1 PC.

the main advantage is that i have the rolls royve of personal computing.

Its deathly silent.
Does not crash.
Does not need updating every 2 mins
Does not have viruses.
Does not need rebuilding.
My Browser isnt hacked into every 5 minutes.
It does not overheat.
It has some of the best software you can buy.
It runs Logic which could make me a multi millionaire.
It has one of the most beautiful 27 inch screens you could ever want.
Its all built in with no wires.
It looks good when people come in my house.
Whenever i do need windows or any other operating system i can run it with no issues just as i would on any pc but with the best hardware.

You cant run my software (the best software that is)

And theres more....

but if i want to play pc games online??

so you have to sell your entire computer to upgrade?? cant you just upgrade the ram or gfx card??

"until it stops working and blows youre processer" - dont know about your mac but my pc shuts down if the fan fails

i kind of agree, a friend of mine always says dont get into it with people that just have no clue and always go down the its so expensive for what route.

i like macs and im an I.t professional that upto 6 months ago always had Pcs, Powerful ones at that. Ive also been building repairing Pcs since i was about 12.

i still think macs are better.

simples.

my mac doesnt ever need to shut down...

mac plays FM2010 fine for me and thats the only game im ever going to want to play online.

If however i want to play some gay game like WOW then ill run paralells and away we go.

Either that or ill boot with bootcamp into shitty windows and were away, although ill probably have to rebuild it after a week or two as the registry would have corrupted and gone blue screen on me!

the reason for no blu ray is that apple believe it will be superseded fairly quickly, which is unfortunate for me as i have about 50 now!

Apple dont just jump on the first bandwagon that comes along.
