Timewasting ******** cost me nearly 24 hours of my life...
Wasted yesterday travelling 1000 miles for a car that my friend had decided that he wanted from the description, pictures sent and from questions and answers which they had about condition, mechanicals etc...
Just in case anyone is in the market for an STi Type R then this is the car in question, which has also been for sale on Pistonheads.
You can see comments from the seller, my mate (Melly) and me...
http://bbs.scoobynet.com/private-sal...ti-type-r.html
Total waste of time and money, 1000 mile round trip..
Can't believe the guys brass neck at letting us travel such a distance knowing that the car he had described was complete fiction. If that car is "very good condition" then I would seriously hate to see what his idea of an average car is.. more than likely be sitting 3 cars high at your local scrapyard.
Had a good laugh through the day, real shame that we weren't driving home in a Scoob, but nothing handles being nailed to the floorboards in 5th as well as a hire car... so the trip home was probably better that way!! Oxford to Perth, 386 miles, in 4hrs 40mins.
Cheers,
Grant

The ladies love it French
Haha, I know that feeling, me and a mate trekked to Bolton this morning to see a similar bullshitter living in a dreamland.
Not quite a 1000 miles round trip though, but still had a good laugh.

Within 5 minutes I knew that it was wrong, but from the time we got out the car, to the time we got back into the car was probably about 10 minutes.
HTH with any confusion Dojj.
Train tickets were Ł300, Hire Car from Heathrow was Ł180, Train and Bus Tickets from Andover to Heathrow were Ł50-odd I think.

Tell me about it mate, I took a half day from work yesterday to go and see a car. I'd decided by the time I got to his door I wasn't taking it - I even considered just driving away. It's a total pisser, I hate it.

To be honest with you Kevman.. it looked like it'd been painted with a tip-ex brush... lol, lots of small stroke marks. I'm not a bodywork expert, but it was like the car hadn't been prepared properly before the paint had been applied.
It was SERIOUSLY noticeable though, even if you were blind, you could have felt the shitey condition of the paint with your fingertips.
I know what you're saying about just taking off, but we were in a random place so needed to get back to the train station and start working out how we were going to get back home, 500-odd miles away.... given that it was 5pm on a Saturday afternoon at this point.

Grant

Just read the Scoobynet link. Fuck that. I've done a 400-500 mile round trip with a pal to look at a car down south to find it was tatty, but that was in my car and the travel costs were nothing like that. I'd certainly be pissed if I'd spent what you two have.

Just intrigued here really.....
Is the price of the car about right or is it above or below the average selling price?
What sort of condition do you expect an c80k mile 11 year old car to be in?
Following on from that - seeing as its cost your mate Ł600 quid to view it, would he not have been better to point out the obvious flaws and come to a better arrangement for price?
If the car was mechanically sound with the right sort of history then a few dinks and dents wouldn't stop me buying a car- in fact I would be happier that I'd got some money in my back pocket and able to use the car as intended and not shit myself everytime I parked it.
Not trying to cause trouble, just looking at it from a different perspective.

I also see your point about trying to knock down the price a little to compensate for the extra marks.. but there were just SO many extra marks, dents, bodywork issues that it would have required massive movement on the price to have even considered it...... plus, after seeing the car which he had mis-described, any trust and confidence that the car was straight had vanished.
Mechanically, the car wasn't in order either. The diff was knocking (prob a diff mount, not end of world) the rear brakes were sticking and the rear shocks seemed to be knocking too?
Yea, got another UK Turbo mate.. not taken any decent pictures of the thing yet, there are a couple in my garage though.... if you have a look above my avatar picture there should be a link with some info??

The scoob is nippy and with the JDM 6 speed its pretty quick through the box. I managed to pull a few car lengths away from a 375-380bhp EVO7 the other evening from one side of the speedo to the other, which I was pretty happy about.

but it doens't stop it being a complete and utter mission for no reason at all
perhaps you could have asked the seller to knock off a grand for fucking you about and then seen what he said

I dunno how much an Evo 7 weighs, but its likely to be more than a Classic Impreza.. and from 50mph to just over three times that.. I went from being 2 car lengths behind at the start, to being 4 or 5 car lengths ahead of him when he gave me a flash of submission.
He's been telling people that its over 400bhp, however, it was on pistonheads advertised with a R/R printout for 375ish. Not sure about the torque figure is, or even what the estimated typical figure would be on an E7 engine at that horsepower.
I thought an E8 MR would have been near on 400/400 with a pump and remap from what I've read.. I had a run-in with John Banks in his a few years back in my old grey GT4 running c300bhp of home brew mods, and it embarassed me as it spooled off into the distance.
Cheers,
Grant
