Default Help and advice needed

Hello guys well i was going to post pictures of my lovely new saph coz,But instead one week in to owning it BOOOM.

She has melted two pistons.

I have taken her to a local guy in essex who just does cosworths and since taking my car to bits has given me lots of bad news..

I bought this magenta butie because it was supposed to have had recent mapping and engine work but one of the top tuners..

I was reasured to see invoices from south coast performance and told it had been mapped buy there top bloke Paul Hills and was set up perfect.

Also if i had any problems give them a call..

Well car blew up so i took it to local as essex to eastborne is a trec.

I am told the car blew up due to detonation?? to much spark in my map?

I no its a second hand car sale but do i have any come back i though it recently being tuned was a good thing ..

advice please

So sorry to hear that news mate, must be absolutely gutting That'll be my biggest fear when I go to buy a 2wd Saph.

With a private sale I dont think ya will have much comeback like, n nae to sure if those tuners will take any responsibilty either, how recent was the tune/setup according to the docs ya have??

The lad i brought it off made it out to be recent and i have some paper work.

i paid 5700 for this my pride and joy.
The cosworth tuner i took it to said im looking at 3000 to rebuild and re map.

I watched him take my ecu out the dash board and open it up .He took out a small black thing he called the prom. Then he put it in somting that read it and sow on his computer..

I dont understand what i was looking at but he showed me the graphs? compared to a recent one he had done similer spec and the SPARK map ? was to much.

He said this was my problem.

I called south coast on friday but the bloke there sounded very blanc. he said the man to speak to was not there .

I asked to speak with this paul and apperently he was also out ..

Does 3 k for engine build sound to much ??

I have just been reading some old threads about him.
How is he still in bussines .

I brought the car because he i supposed to be a top mapper at south coast.

It made me feel safe ,now i cant belive what im reading.
Does he own south coast or just work there ??

Im trying to work out what come back i have if any.

Does it not come under "fit for purpose" even tho its a private sale ??

Ok just checked this out and all it says is that it has to be as described
So i guess there's no come back on the seller as he didn't know the ass wipe in the garage didn't know how to map cars so all you can do is see when it was mapped , look at mileage and if it's not long ago then keep on at them and see what they going to do about it .

Sorry there's no easy way to get it sorted , unless you got 3k kicking about and put it down to experiance .

Just read the threads on here about paul hill's it tells its own story

you wont have a leg to stand on with getting anything back; just have to put it down to experience; get it rebuilt and then you'll have the piece of mind its been done right

i would take it to someone like Danny at enhanced performance

or a bit further afield MA Developments

get it rebuit by somone who know's what they are doing!

Sorry mate your not alone we got an engine in built by Hills it sounds so bad its untrue one of the guys is stripping it down next to find out why it knocks like 2am cop raid and is 30bhp down to what i would expect. What winds me up he gets away with it and customer is left in a ditch with no come back and people like me having to sort out someone elses mess and not being able to charge full labour rates for someone elses mistakes, Hills is making enemies with customers and other garages alike.

As said £3K is a good price really, esp when you think there's not that much change out of £400 for the pistons alone.
Unfortunately he did the car tune for someone else not for you, so will have zero comeback, anyone selling only has to beleive it to be good, and he's acted reasonably and not hid anything.
I know it's a bit late now, but with any cossie before giving it death, get a fuelling check done, well worth the wait and cost.
