Default Preventing Fraud/parts/ money theft on this forum?

I don't know about you guys, but I really think somthing needs to be done about the massive increase in people getting screwed over?

I know it is very hard to police, but I would suggest that ALL gold members should have to provide a full name, registered postal address, a landline contact number and a mobile number. This could be quite easily held on the database, and in cases where there is a dispute mods would have access to this info to provide to the police.

In the long run it's up to individuals to ensure they get sufficient contact details before handing money over, but this could be a good way of at least giving people an indication who is registered and contactable?

You could not trust the owners of this site to not sell your details to every possible company who wanted to spam you.

Yes, it seems a few people have joined here just to join in with everything before taking people for a ride.

However, even providing full details like that might not stop people providing incorrect full details.

Unless you actually meet swap goods and money on the day, I think it's going to be hard to stop that sort of thing going on.

Simple things, a photograph of the item with a hand written sign of the user's user name to prove ownership, a picture of a utility bill, also with hand written member's username along side it. That would prove ownership of item and address.....

What if they gave a different address to where they live ?
How and who would check everything out ?
What about people who dont have a landline ?
Think it would be hard to police , the only other way is to send the goods to a third party and when they are received then the buyer can pay for them and then they get forwarded to the buyer , yes i know it would cost a little bit more in postage but you know you'd get your stuff .
Thats my tuppence worth anyway .

Its a good idea but the only prob is security and who has access to the details.
I think paypal could be the way to do it, I know you get charged, but they are the pros at this.

It is very difficult to stop people getting ripped off.

We introduced the itrader system aso as you could gauge whether you wanted to deal with the person judging by their feedback received but obviously this is no good if they have no feedback.

We rely on you guys to alert us ASAP when there is a problem with a trade so as we can try and help.

I sympathise with anyone on here fully who has been ripped off because I myself have been potentially ripped off my a member on here this week to the tune of £60 and now he just ignores my PM's and texts and I dont have his address so what do i do?

It was my decision to trust him, unfortunately it would appear that i made an error in judgement!!

I hold myself fully responsible for this though as noone forced me to trade with him I certainly dont blame PF in any way. Thankfully this was the first time i have ever been ripped of on here and all my other trades have been problem free.

you should all use a intermediary service.
ie the goods are sent to a trusted source,
and the money is also sent there.
when the money and the goods arrive, and the goods description has been checked,
payment and goods can be sent on to the buyer and the seller.
obviously a admin charge will apply, and extra postage.but its a very safe system to buy and sell.

i think there should be a sticky thread with rips off names in there, nothing else just alist of user names whove ripped people off.

personally i find it discusting this happens on an enthusiasts site, well at all really but this is for a specific make and youd think everyone would join to enjoy the cars not rip people off.

ive just put it down to expieience ,

i think a level of trust needs to be built up between users and i often wondered if you were buying anything from a gearbox to a light to a turbo if you paid half up front and then paid the other half when the part was delivered both parties have to trust one another before a transaction takes place,
what do you think?

theres no fool proof way of stopping people getting ripped off sadly. Even getting a third party to hold goods and money etc is not fool proof and would be prohibitatively expensive.

Sadly theres more cunts in the world these days. Only way is to ensure people get hurt when caught ripping others off so it sends a message that we wont tolerate thiefs.

If i owned a website like this i would have that rule 100%

No contact phone number no advert

I dont know one single person that doesnt have a phone so why not put up your number then people can talk to you and try to make out if they like you or not

I know it doesnt solve the issue 100% but it will stop a lot of conmen if they have to give a contact number

And for all those who say " im not putting my phone number on a website " WHY NOT , mine is on every website and i have never had any problems at all

The trouble is i can go and get mobile chips for 99p, you send your money and then i bin the chip so unless a landline number still wouldn't work.

Its up to the buyer at the end of the day - you choose to send money to a complete stranger then you take a chance - shit but thats the way it is
