How long did it take you to find your cossie?
#2
knew the owner of my car for over two years before i bought it.
it took a week of disscussion b4 he agreed to sell it too me then another week on price....
buying a cossie is pot luck, if i was going to but another i would find one with good body but fcuked engine, buy it for buttons and spend the rest on a pukka rebuild. thats the only way to get some piece of mind.....

I wasnt even lloking for mine but it was at such a good price I couldnt say no
and as per Rapidcossie, the only reason I bought it was that the body is great and the bottom end is fucked so plenty of scope for improving, even if it is stage 3 already

did a lot of looking through top marques Rallye news etc, rang up about one 3 1/2 hours away, drove up there and saw it was so original with only 21,000 miles that I knew it was the one,the guy had a hydraulic lift in his massive garage and let me look all over and under it before I decided
never looked back-its a corker!

When i bought my first escort it was around the 14th one i looked at so i was being pretty fussy, travelled a fair distance to see them all aswell
Second escort came up local when i didnt expect it, went to look at it on the off chance as didnt really like malard at the time, when i got there he had just killed the turbo and some of it ended up in the engine.
alot of hagueling later and i got myself a car that was pretty straight andi didnt care what colour it was at that price.... even if i did have to change engines etc

i wanted an imperial blue standard 1 so i could do all the mods myself cos i had no idea how these things were put together being a vw nut.looked at so many .had a day off work to look at 1 5hrs away .standard 12k miles as new top top money .wasnt totally convinced and went for a think found a ford garage and asked the mechanics if their was any for sale.one said there is a 12k imperial blue one for sale but 2yrs ago it was in here after an arguement with the armco on the motorway it was touch and go if it was gonna be written off.they replaced the full side and some.obviously the car i was looking at.told the guy but he refused to admit it.rang a week later it had sold.anyway bad mistake shouldve gone for 1 already modded

From: My own little world Drives: badly
Mine came and found me!!
I knew the car but never thought it was up for sale.
I had been to look at a cossie a couple of days before with a mechanic mate - but it was a piece of shit
My mate was talking to the postman (who owned a mint black saph) about the car we'd looked at, how it was crap compared to his and it turned out the posite's car was for sale so he brought it round to show me!
Mechanics verdict "If you dont fookin buy it - I WILL!!!"

I want even looking for a Cossie when i found mine!
I was out looking at and test driving RX7s when i accidently came across it at a performance garage "somewhere" (honest to god i cant remember where, somewhere in west mids, i was driving all over the shop all day on test drives etc), took it out, seemed quite cheap, loved it, bought it

A good 6 weeks or so. Looked at 3 was supposed to be 4. For some reason its normally the buyer who pisses sellers off but in my case it was the other way round.
1st one - wrong age car, guy advertised it as an 89 but was a 90
2nd one - knackered and hadnt been started for 3 months which I wasnt told until I had spent 180quid on a return ticket to Newcastle and half the day travelling up there!
3rd one - didnt show up at the meet up and didnt call either until I rang him
4th one - spot on and is the one in my siggy
Not all buyers mess people around and not all sellers are inncent. Exceptions to every rule

3 days after deciding to buy one ...i got mine thanks to help form artie and contacts
3 days Spen! Took me around a month to find that sapphy, must of looked at around 10 of them before buying. My escort took around 2 weeks to find, though i was originally looking for a standard imperial / auralis blue small turbo.
Ended up with an imperial blue small turbo converted to large turbo spec with 18's/ low comp and antilag. Steve

Best advice is look at loads, even if not for sale, so you get a good gauge of what u can expect.. I spent the first part of the show season looking at what was about, they will generally be the better examples too, so gives you a good idea of what to realistically expect to find. Mine wasn't exactly for sale, but I put the idea in the guy's head, so he wasn't desperate to sell, got a nice one as a result with no hidden skeletons
