Will a diesel engine (55 plate transit if it matters) run with snapped glow plugs once it was running?? We have driven a works truck to our local ford agent and they have claimed that all the glow plugs are snapped, admittedly it was a bit of a f****r to start but would we have been able to drive it there if they were all broken??

They will have snapped taking them out - so they could have been fine when you drove there surely?

Snapped glow plugs on these are common when trying to remove them. The glow plugs are not required for starting the vehicle, they are only there for emission control.

Glow plugs do nothing once the engine has been running a few seconds, they are just there to start it.

As above though, most of them snapped coming out blatantly, maybe one was damaged before or something but not all of them.

Cheers for all your replies, we were told that they had to wait to 'get the correct tool as they didnt have one in the work shop' (its a transit in a ford main dealer??) but now they have all snapped, sounds fishy to me

Most modern diesel engines the glowplugs stay on for quite some time once running for emission control.

Direct injection diesel engines of which this is one do not require glowplugs for starting. The previous transit engine, the 2.5Di as used in the transit for 16 years never had glowplugs.
