Yes, you can cancel like with mobile contracts. Give them a ring! When I cancelled they grovelled like fuck and wanted to chop loads of money off the bill, so you may end up keeping Sky, just paying a lot less for it!

As above but best do it in writing recorded
and also remember you paid a month in advance when you started your subscription

I'd ring up first, then write once (if) you've decided to cancel. You've no haggling skilz by post!

I would love to know what they offered you as they do very little, best really would be half price for 3 months.

It was half price for 6 months, plus one package free for 6 months. I was intent on canceling it, as we rarely watched the channels you get over and above the freeview stuff, but the dude on the phone didn't want to take no for an answer, and kept trying to offer more and more stuff.

It didn't work, and I canceled it.

So do they just let you cancel free of charge or do you have to pay something? and also do you get to keep the sky box and have the basic channels like you'd get on freeview? or do they want it back?

Had this box probably 7-8years so ive no idea how it works now

Keep the box, and it just works as a freeview box. You need the white viewing card (not the blue one).

Does your mum know your plotting to get rid of her sky ? They will only let the person whose name it is in cancel ?

Less you have your own subscription in your bedroom ?

I had some problems with sky when i went to Spain and canceling, hope you sort it anyway pal.
