Default How much is your gas /electric bill...???

As above, how much do you pay a month for your gas and electric?

Would be good to give the size of the house and the average daily use.

Cheers.

Pay around £94 a month for gas and electric.

As far as the central heating goes, it's been on constantly since November on low but enough to keep the house warm (three bed mid terrace). Running the boiler in this way is the most efficient way. Having the heating comin on twice a day for a few hours costs more as the house goes cold and takes longer to heat up. As they say........ Simples

we have 2 bed, 2 reception rooms, paying £40 a mnth for electric only.

can i just add, i work for EDF Energy. some of the info yous have put above doesnt seem right. yeh its been the coldest winter for a while but for what yous seem to be using it sounds alot.

main tips for being billed right -

give an accurate reading 5-12 days before your billing cycle (when your bills going to be produced)

do a consumption checklist your self, make a list of the appliances you use in ever room, asking yourself "is it ever on when we dont use it?"

check your thermostat, average temp in the house to be ok is 18 degrees. anymore and thats when it gets expensive.

if you have storage heaters, is your time switch set correct, most come on at 11pm-6am then in summer 12am-7am, and are you being billed for a higher (through the day) and lower (through the night) rate?

underfloor heating is freat but the bills not so good. this is getting popular but the watts it uses knocks uo them units and knocks up your bill - unless used very sensible.

some companies charge a daily standing charge for both fuels, chk what this is and maybe compare with other companies who dont - EDF dont for gas prepayment, but do for electric - nothing on credit/billing meters.

There will be nothing wrong with your meter like it being plugged into the guys electric next door or for the whole block of flats. what you pay for is what you have used. compare your usage for this year to last year and it maybe higher, but has the ompany your with had price increase? has your tarrif changed?

Moral is, check the tarrifs and all the small print when you change companies.

Hope this has helped abit and sorry to blabber on but not alot of people know this.

cheers, rach

p.s if your with edf gis a shout and i will chk if you paying right. (cant do business' though, just residential)

We paid £271 and used 6367.20 kWh of gas with bgas. Just put our details into the above but it didn't compare price on per unit. Is what we pay a fair price?

depends on what tarriff your on and the number of days that it covers, average usage on gas for a property is around 16000 - 20000 KWH of gas per year.

i work for BG and the advise that the other people who work for energy companys is spot on,

also arga's (Sp?) use loads and loads of gas so if youve got one of them you bill will be high,
day in day out i get people saying the meter is fast in actual fact its only like 1 in 10000 thats wrong and usually they read slow not fast, also be realistic and honest i get people telling me every day the bill is to high to ask them about the property to find out its eitha a mansion or has a swimming pool and they try telling me they sit in 1 room with a candle and nothing on in the house!

i,ve got a real bad combination( i dont mean boiler) , gas and electric prepay meters , fairly bad insulated 5 bedroom hse and i,ve left the heating on constantly this winter. I was told by a gasman it,ll be more efficent if left on. I also have a back boiler just to add injury.
estimate £10pw electric

£40 pw Gas , 3 of us live here

Prepay is a nightmare in a big property, and £40 a week is a joke!
Im not completly sure if who i work for (Southern Electric) do free meter changes in your area, but we do up in the north west, check it with us and if we do then get yourself signed up with us then after 3months of being in credit on your meter we will swap that meter for a normal non prepay one.

Depends what angle your looking at tbh, if you mean in a general direct debit point of view, now is a good time to build yourself your winter credit with an energy supplier, if you mean in a general pricing situation there really isnt a good time tbh.

Some of yours are extortionate!

This quarter of course will be the worst, this time last year Electric was £74 and Gas £207 (for the quarter)

average is about £21 electric pm and £35 pm gas

3 bed semi with two of us out at work all day, gas central heating comes on for about an hour in the mornings, then maybe 4 in the evenings depending how cold. (Gas cooker too)
Sometimes I just put the gas fire in the living room on as no point heating the whole house if the rooms are empty.
