Whats your opinions on him?
Downloaded the first series of his Man vs Wild show and i dont know what to make of him.
He's obviously very clever and very skilled at survival but these shows just make me want to think its all staged, situations are dramatised, stuff is planted for him to use, camera crew are giving him his meals and the eating of worms and raw fish is for our benefit?

Yeah, it is entertaining regardless of whether its set up or not, no doubt.
I've just put on the second episode, where he is in the desert. He's climbing over rocks, pondering how he is going to get down from the top, as the camera crew are filming him from the bottom where he wants to be... how did they get down there?![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
Maybe im too cynical for this kind of thing

Also!
Shows how much you know about Ray Mears then.... as his art is Bushcraft, not survival like Bear. There is a bit of cross over between the two, but but both are good at what they know!

I think its good entertainment, I enjoy watching it.
Ray meers is real and factual but no really action to it.
One way to discribe it would be. If they were both stuck in the same place. Bear grylls would run like a bitch and get to civilisation asap while Ray Meers would build himself a huge camp to live in for a while and then after a few month just slowly make his way to civilisation.

I always thought his cameraman was as good at outdoor stuff as him, as you can tell from a few of the shots from tricky places.
Yes Ray did a survival series, but his passion is bushcraft not soley survival like Bear. Go and read up on him if you want the point clarifying![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
Who knows more, Bear or Ray? Toughie?? They are both awesome to watch on TV

Ray is obviously very sucessful at feeding himslef in the wild, look what a chunky bastard he is
However, if you put both of them in the middle of the Jungle i'd expect Bear Grylls to reach civilization first, altho Ray would make it out also.
As above Bear is about survival no matter what, Ray is more about craft and other races ways of living and survival, not soley about surviving extreme conditions

Ray is a top man, love his way of thinking!
Bear is mental, but with good skills, I can remember him in a mango swamp telling a story of a plane crash where they crashed onto the trees and the pilot jump out of the trees into the mud and dying cos he got stuck there and no one could help him, with that Bear sitting in a tree the stood up and jump into thus mud!
To Paddy was you mate the cameraman in the episode where Bear mad a raft in a south America lake? the lake was freezing cold and as the raft started to sink, he jumped off and swam back to land, but what happened to the cameramen?

ray mears is good at living off the the land and surviving.
bear grylls shows you how to survive off the land while getting from point A to point B i,e how to tackle the torrain.

Doesn't really matter who you boys think is better... neither RayRay or Grylls would stand a chance against Timothy Treadwell a.k.a The Grizzly Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogYDUmIigw0

Bear used to train the top elite team of the SAS for 5 years.....Search online for Edward Michael Grylls.....
I think he's a nutter! And does all his own stunts. He does come a cropper in a few episodes... See the one in the second series when he's in Antarctica when he breaks his shoulder! Now that was NOT staged! But he still soldiered on and completed the challenge (even though he was out of action for 3 months)
