Default K&N air filter elements...

...i have put these in the SL, 3dr and now got one for the TT, are they seriously any better than std other than the million mile warranty? Do they actually increase BHP? More important if it does increase air flow does this effect the map? (Although i guess on modern day cars the computer compensates accordingly.)

Too be honest I woud be wary mate as the oil comes away from the filter and contaminates the MAF. I often had issues on both my last couple of Audi's with the revs dropping off and guaranteed a clean up with some electrical contact cleaner on the MAF wire resolved the problem. When I fitted the cone filter to my AEB car I spent the first couple of months popping the filter off and cleaning the MAF as a precaustion until the excess oil had disipated

I really like K&N filters, the quality is ace. However, regarding actual power gains, check out the before and after graph of my R26, standard filter vs K&N panel filter.

Christian, but isnt this because the car sensend more airflow so backed things off to compensate? If you had the car mapped with the k&n then youd getter a better result over standard???

So on my cars its just the never have to change them agin advantage!!!

Depends. Yours 'may' make power (albeit only a small amount).
