M5, M6, SL55AMG, or shit end of the F355 market.

Sensible choice would be the 996 turbo though. Unlikely to see huge depreciation and should monster most stuff, plenty of tuning potential aswell

James if i had 30k it would be 996 turbo1st. 2nd would me E60 M5 i have driven about 11 now in total & they are just awesome cant think of anything else i would go & buy having that money. Driven 3 new m3's now love them as well. Wouldnt buy anything that wasnt meant to be 400-500 bhp now im done wasting money making cars something they arent meant to be.

what are the e60 m5s like on fuel carlo, i hear really bad figures?

the plan for the car would be lots of use, using it for work sometimes, ring trips, trips abroad with the mrs etc, so i cant have a real juicy thing, it needs to be an all rounder,

The one i was in the other day was avereging 18mpg it got a bit of a sore time but i dont think it will be any worse than a 996 turbo on chat. If you want a car for ring trips ect surley its either a 996 or M5. I cant have enough praise for the m5 out the packet they are total weapons with all the comfort you will ever need. Charlie shaw's dad has had 2 E60 m5's he has got a 360 as well a 07 plate i think with the f1 paddle shift charlie reckons the m5 was a good bit quicker

Best thing to do mate is drive both them i personally havent driven a 996 turbo but from what i have heard they are meant to be awesome! not much room in the back tho for the little one. Suppose the fuel economey is like everything else if your red lining either of the two they will drink it but so would a 500 bhp evo or cossie,

i think anyone would be mad to spend £30k on a car unless you are regularly earning more than £100k / year, but it's up to you

I think if you were planning on family trips then the M5, but if its just you and the missus, and you using it for work, gotta be the 996, im sure you will fiddle with it, do Evo chips do a map for one????
Not much will match that afterwards.

WHY? a new focus rs is almost 30k and you dont have to earn 100k a year to own one of them

you get nothing of any caliber new for 30k,

E55 amg Merc rapid and an 03 one can be had for £10k M5 BMW's over here there are 08 models for about £25k but if u have to ask about fuel economy then dont even go there we put a full tank of fuel through one is 60 miles!!!!!! granted we did it flat out but it was 70l of fuel!! 911's are great fun but turbos aare a heart ache the radiators rot out as they collect alot of gunge that £1800+vat to sort turbos and oil seals are trouble and they are not that great everyday. I would have a turbo-s tomorrow but in reality it would be a Carrera4s (as its more reliable and easier to live with) or an SL55.

I have a customer car 911 turbo-s we remapped with a simple map and rolling roaded at 510bhp and there was more to go..

the C63 is a wonderful car and alot better set up than most people would think very balanced and controlled but bury the pedle and it will try to kill you. a proper raw family fun bus!

Porsche, you just said you could map it, and the gains considering you would probably get longer playing with it in your situation means thats a winner, case closed thread locked and await the "pics of my new porsche" thread. Night.

M6 for me,

But Im biased because i have one and also I didnt need the rear doors so didnt go for the m5. No other reason.

Will do 250-280 on a long run, around town/weekend blasting 180-240miles.

30k thats alot of money, your lucky to be in the position. Theres only 2 cars I would buy if i had 30k spare.

1. http://pistonheads.com/sales/1277367.htm RS6 Estate V8 Twin turbo. £20k. leave £10k in the bank for insurance, spares and repair, and when things break, replace them with uprated items. I would also look into a B7 RS4 gearbox (6 speed manual) if you dont like fast autos with flappy paddles.

or

2. If you prefer to show off, and a slower car but gives you an aural orgasm everytime your drive it:
http://pistonheads.com/sales/1493756.htm
The problem is, they break alot more I should think, its right on the limit of your budget, you cant afford any money to look after it (unless you paid 20k of it upfront and then used a loan for the rest, keeping 10k in bank) and cant afford the tubi you need for the aural orgasm.

or buy a porsche, but im not a fan as all the ones i have heard sound crud.

also if you do get the porsche and you map it, you can map the cruise sections a little more lean so you get better economy when on the motorway, im sure you can easily pull a few mpg doing that

Hmmm hard one that as so much choice and depends what sort of car you want.Good all rounder id say would be a mercedes e55 amg like this one http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1461530.htm or maybe a Mercedes SL55 AMG or as already said audi rs4/6

Number 1 is a bloody lovely car and hell of a car for 20k they just look a little bit plain though.Number 2 looks like an mr2 in drag.
