Ive not read all the replies but i have been in both 996 TT and M5 and tbh i'd defo pic the M5... awesome awesome cars. Faster than 996, and you could leave it anywhere and and not worry about it as much as a porsche.

Any ive been in though dont average 18... my mates gets 15 with his misses driving and lower with him.

Defo not a RS6... no point buying the old model. Heavy old lumps as well as being gash on fuel. M5 eats them alive.

it's your money james, so do as you like with it. personally i would rather put it into property and spend a little on bikes (that are faster than those barges anyway ) and holidays. expensive cars are just a huge waste of money in my eyes, but if it's your passion then go for it.

you do the maths (get the calculator out if you have to), but i'm fairly sure that Ł30k is more than 20% of a Ł100k income

Im kinda with Nick on this one James
im sure you enjoyd driving the cossie , its just the reliability issues that make them a pita. Im sure a man in your position could make a fast car even faster without spending 30k.
is it really the best time to throw 30k at a car ?

p.s if i had to spend 30k i,d buy another range rover sport for the family , a trailer, a cossie powered mk2 escort for track days and playing and a gixer thou to kill myself on.

I meant if you was getting the car on finance lol...

I Would save the 20k say and then maybe get 10 on finance... Or have the full 30k saved, then its not youre income every month is it.

Sorry thats what i meant.

dont agree with the m5 being faster than a 996 turbo, any gear any revs the 996tt just goes, no lag, no nothing, its well known for being the fastest point to point car around. the m5 needs a long straight dry road and loads of revs to get going although i admit once its going it shifts. the best bit about a 996tt is the fuel consumption, which is good considering the power, easy mid 25s on a run, bit less round town, and also the ride quality is awesome and the first thing you will notice is the quality of the damping it just stemarollers any bumps. Not what i expected. The rear seats are ok for small kids, there is alos a boot up front for shopping. As said check the rads, if theyve been replaced thats good, mine wer done last year, just over a grand at an indie. try and get a car with a porsche warranty, as any niggles are sorted free of charge, many cars still have these on them, costs Ł1400 a year, so well worth having, although you dont have to renew. Also the hydraulic clutch assistance can play up, but again, a routine fix. Other than that, there are no real problems. They are bomb proof, and i have to admit, a step up from a cossie, both in build and performance, you just dont worry, just turn the key and go.You will also attract good attention from birds, a bonus id say.. rear tyres are exspensive cos thyre so freakin wide, but stuff like discs and pads are well cheap now online. service intervals are massive, rememebr its a very unstressed engine, no cambelt, get your mobil 1 oil from costco and top up as necessary.

Charlie shaw's dad has had 2 E60 m5's he has got a 360 as well a 07 plate i think with the f1 paddle shift charlie reckons the m5 was a good bit quicker
it wont be a 360 on an 07 plate mate, they ceased production in 05,replacing with the gorgeous 430

as for e60 m5,s little brother got an 07 a few months ago awesome car!!! but likes the petrol
my choice
1) 996 turbo
2) e60 m5
3) m3 csl
4)997 c2s ( might be pushing it but )
5)audi rs4 saloon (avant if you have a dog or go shooting, fishing)

why are you talking about an M5 or a 996 Turbo???

what about the M6?????

M5 is a GREAT car no doubt... but its also a VERY boring looking 4 door saloon... ZZZZz....

M6 does all the same stuff and whilst no stunner... is at least a little more sexy to look at. Still ALOT more practical than a 996 as well.

C63 AMG is 460HP. Awesome bit of kit, I drove my friends and loved it.

E60 M5 Is quicker though. Brutal car. Id have one of those over a 996 Turbo myself.
