From what Paras and Marines have personally me it's not a hatred of each other. Just they are trained to be the best of the best and when fully trained in their respectuive feilds they are, just when they come togther theres competition.

Also they have the Anual Para vs.Marines rugby match....which the Paras currently hold the title for
if and when you join/pass ull be able to tell me..i still have contacts so ill ring my old rsm and find out whats changed in the last 18months....and good luck with P-company.

id love to do it mate but im not fit enough for that i wish i was tho as all the people iv spoken to about it who have been in those elite forces say it was amazing.i also broke my knee when i was younger and 4 years ago when i was 16 i applied for armed forces then but my knee let me down then. so its more of a dream than reality lol

I know people who have/still are serving in both the marines and the paras. i have the utmost respect for both regiments as they do an incredible job. every marine or para i've ever met has been a highly trained, very switched on operative who is completely aware of the dangers of the chosen profession and yet dont give a shit because it is instilled into them from day one that they are invincible. mad this may be but in my mind it's a pretty enviable trait. if i had my time over again i'd bite the bullet and join the paras, because for me thats the way forward. i love jumping out of planes, pushing myself to the utmost point of self destruction and since i can remember i was always drawn to the parachute regiment. in my eyes they just have the edge on the marines. only just mind.

regards

Tom

A marine who genuinely believed he was invincible as he ran into battle would be a liability.

Theres a massive difference between a soldier who is 100% confident in his capabilities and abilities and someone who thinks they are invincible.

yeah but thats where training takes over Doug. you know what you need to do automatically so you get past the initial fear before hand and when the first few rounds come near.

Plus your kind of prepared for it anyway. When it fucks up is when theres no control like the lads in middle east now as you can be wasted by an IED any time, any where and its so random. so then people never get to relax/wind down as they always on edge.

Theres no status quo, no balance of things.

Out in afghan the taliban will know when troops mass in an area anyway as the little shits everywhere grass up to the taliban so they dont get beaten etc.

You might as well let them know so hopefully some flee. Its a messy situation cos of all the fucking IEDs

i have a mate whos an ex para and and he can really fight apparently not seen him in action myself but heard the stories from other close mates who have said they once saw him and one other mate (whos just a nut case) wreck a big 8-10 group of lads he took 3 of them down by spinning rond a lampost and double footing one square and straight into two of his following mates and knocked two out with two punches

i once had this mate pull me off someone in a fight (as he went limp) for me to turn round and punch him square in the face (accident lol) he lent back so i didnt make full contact but still hit him pretty hard and he just shrugged it off

and my dads ex marine and hes 50 this year and id still not fight him as

1) hes twice my size
2)he taught me how to close ppl down with little/no effort and i know his skill far out weighs mine
3)i know hes got the same attitude as me and has pulled ears off poked eyes out and broken limbs previous fights

i would say as a unit the marines are better as individuals the paras win but as said sas are a league of their own
