Default Upped the power of my clio a bit, standalone management

When we were up at Mtech the other day to map Mike's transit on the rollers Rob (sbd16v on here) and Matt from Mtech decided to have a go at making up a "plug and play" adaptor to plug a V4 ecu into the standard clio loom so it could be mapped properly as the standard ecu's are a bit crap.

Was chatting to Matt today and he mentioned he wasnt doing a lot this evening and if I wanted to come up and finsh the job he was up for helping out

So I drove it up on the standard ECU, and we swapped over to the Mtech V4, matt got it running and we stuck it on the rollers and had a go at mapping it.

Book figure for the williams lump is 150bhp standard, but mine isnt standard, its substandard, LOL, nothing fancy about it, its just a high milage engine with tappy lifters etc on a basic aftermarket chip, as this is only my cheap backup trackday hack for when the nova isnt working or cant pass noise etc

Quite surprised at how much better it goes now though, its really improved it considering its still on the standard manifold etc

Can really feel the difference in the midrange, should help haul it out of corners a bit better.

Nice increase for a N/A car Is it really a Williams? I remember they were extremely cool cars back in the day.

You should have said you needed pistons, I was admiring some cosworth 86mm turbo pistons for a Zetec today at Mtech as Matt had some out for a job he was doing, I could have nicked them for you

Great little ECU's , its nice to have a product at the budget end of the market that actually feels finished as opposed to getting stuck with a shitty emerald when cash is tight

Its pretty quick for what it is, kind of dull after the nova though, due to being about 70% less power

Im sure it wont get near your pug, you've got an awful lot more money in yours than I have in this (only owes me around 1500 all in so far, will be 2K if I get the TBs onto it)

dont think the cost matters, i dont push my car anywhere near the limit like others,

it wouldnt supprise me if you lapped quicker than me,

slow and consistant is me , i have fun this way, not a fan of racing on the edge , learnt the hard way with my saff, so like to stick on the black stuff now

Shut up you tart, you were 4 seconds quicker a lap than me last time I was out at coombe

Hoping to close that gap a bit now that I have brakes that will last a lap without fade though

Nice results there, makes me want to get rid of the emerald I have sat on my desk but funds wont allow it at present so the V4 will join the wish list along with a running car and some effective brakes. For the past 3yrs I've been trying to get the damb Gooon to slow down and failed miserably every year

What brakes and pads are you running, your goon is lighter than my pug and my pugs brakes are outstanding, I'm on 283 single pot slider brakes with ds3000 pads

Rover 827 285mm vented discs
Compbrake B16 calipers
Modified Maestro pedal box with 0.625 front cylinder 0.75 to rear
Maestro van rear drums
Hawk pads

Pedal has no bite at all, feels spongy but theres no air in the system. I have to pump the pedal to slow down

Going to replace the pedal setup this month for a 620ti to add a hydraulic clutch

what fluid? i run SRF

i used to run a pedal box but find the pedal feel, isnt as good, (maybe it was setup) so now back on normal setup, with increased size MC to match the calipers and my brakes are awesome

if you have to pump the pedal to slow down and it feels spongey something is very wrong. If youve already changed the fluid and there are no visible system leaks then one or other of your master cylinders has shot seals

I agree somethings wrong its a Maestro and its trying to kill me

Cylinders changed (masters and slaves)
Re-bleed
Solid pedal

Within 2 laps spongy pedal and no confidence in brakes, pump twice and its stops great

Resized rear master from 0.7 to 0.75 and its helped but not cured it, fitted in car adjuster and it made no difference

what was the before figure as i presume you did a before and after to see what actual difference was made (which is the only real purpose of a rolling road of course)?

is there a chance to make a plug in loom for ford eec iv?

its been tested that the 1.8 valver exhaust manifold on a 2.0 williams engine gives more low/mid range torque which is ideal for track days-i was really in to them a while back and tracked both of them.
might be worth looking in to??

I assume that wouldnt be a problem, Mtech do a lot of zetec engines, so im sure it would be possible to make up an adaptor rather than a new loom if thats what someone wanted.

Give Matt a ring, he's really approachable and always happen to just talk things through etc

Im on the 1.8 exhaust manifold, but from what ive seen, its a very very minor difference in how they drive anyway, although they certainly look totally different.
