Default FAO PassionFord Plumbers.

Well im in need of some advice, i have got a Pulsacoil a class boiler and over the past few months the hot water pressure has become less and less.
I live in a very hard water area and i have been told that my heat exchanger is probably clogged up with calcium deposit and it will need replacing.
Ive searched on the net for cleaning/flushing techniques and found that it may be possible to clean depending on the extent of the blockage.
Im just wondering what the most effective way of De-scaling it is and if normal lime scale remover would be effecient.
Or is a new one a necessity.
Any help much appreciated!

Ive never heard of that boiler before!

Normally you cant descale a DHW heat exchanger on site a 100%, your'e best bet would be to get a replacement DHW heat exchanger and get it fitted and then get your old one descaled and keep as a spare, as no doubt it will scale up again!

We use fernox DS3 chemical, we heat it up and pump it through the limescaled heat exchanger, after about 2-3 hrs it will be clean and cleared out.

Normal house hold descalers will not be any good.

Hope that helps!

Girlfriends dad is a developer and he's put a load of these in some flats he's done, they are quite big!

We used spirit of salts on heat exchangers and they come out a treat - no need to buy new. Can be bought from plumbers merchants, just remember to wear rubber gloves and only use in a well ventilated area as its an acid and is evil stuff!

www.pulsacoil-repairs.co.uk - very helpfull site! used it myself

Nope im alive and kicking. well i Bought some 'kilrock k' from my local hardware store poured that through it un diluted and let it fizz for 2 hours then re-fitted it, there's a noticeable difference but still no good really, i think maybe its gone a bit to far and im going to have to replace it.
I am tempted to try and get some spirit of salts and give that a go as mentioned above, maybe kilrock wasn't up too the job although it has done an excellent job on my kettle.
Thanks for the help anyway guys!
