It's up to your ins co to chase this, they cannot hold you responsible, your insurance co need to reclaim any monies from the MIB, sadly they are VERY long winded, expect up to 5 years to sort out.
I would pm roosie off here, as he deals with nothing but this sort of thing, the solicitors they use a specific car accident soilicitors also, and quikc as well.
You can also get a courtesy car right away as well, and have nothing to pay, all it will cost a few pence phone call.

If no registered owner, i think the last owner should be responsible. Get that shit alot here, some fucker sells his bag of shite car to scumbags for €50 quid and they rally the bollox out of it in and around the housing estates and when the crash it they just walk away, so if the last owner didnt get rid of it properly, he should be responsible, just my opinion. Sorry to here about your car by the way, can you not claim off the state?? I know we can here in Ireland.

Yes Tabethas right 2% of our policys what we pay for goes into a goverment fund called MIB (Motor Insurance Bureau) which pays for any Injured Persons/Damage Vehicles from people that are Uninsured.
Id be supprised if your own insurance company will try persue the owner as they feel its hard work and they get nothing out of it .
There are ways to getting your car money but im not allowed to give advice as i got banned when i last did

if i just claimed for my vehicle and the 2 other cars on my insurance as it was my fault it would just go against me and my policy would go up but as accident was caused by uninsured driver and my insurance will claim it back from MIB pot will they still see it as the claim was against me and my policy go up as though it was my fault if that makes sense

Insurance companys are all different!

But 80% of them ask if you had any accidents in last 5 years fault or Non Fault? WHY surely they should only be notified of accidents that was the clients fault? wrong! The insurance system is stupid i have a client that has had 4 non fault accidents in 2 years. insurance have crippled him this year even tho every accident is proven to be not his fault. but people on here think insurance only goes up because of people claiming PI but all it is Insurance knows us gulible public will pay stupid prices so just keep trying to find reasons to put it up.

What has your insurance company said? and if you dont mind who are you insured with as since i deal with insurance companies day in day out i know how most of there policys work.
cheers
